Corolla Engine replacement question...

Postby GTCRSHR » Fri Sep 15, 2006 12:02 am

Right ... just thinking a biut more about engine transplants for the corolla (ae101) as its edging closer to the end ....

what are the pros / and cons of each of these :

which has the most potential

Option A. A custom built 7agte

Option B. a 2ZZGZE ?(is that theone) the new celica/corolla engine with the supercharger kit on it ...

Option C. a version of the 3sgte Front wheel drive

Car is for show, and street use, may take it down the strip for shits and giggles
Nothing to see here ...

A: 7AGTE, I like the idea of a "big block" turbo'd A-series motor..

B: These motors are relatively hard to get, quite expensive still, and from what I've read, not too reliable either.

C: Probably the most cost-effective, making up the mounts/driveline would probably be the hardest part, 3SGTEs are everywhere, run a FWD 3S box, you're away, I'd say at a guess, a LOT easier to get power from than a 7AGTE, and a damn sight cheaper. My pick of the bunch. :)

cheers at this stage its more a case of figureing out which is the best route to go

in the beginning i wanted to go 3sgte with the 4wd.... would be great for a conversion, but impractical ... i could never use it to its full potential

hence the reason for Fwd now ...:

is there any one that has done a ae101levin or corolla conversion with 3sgte ?

there is a way cheaper way to do the 7agte but u wont get qutie as much power as i have.
building a engien from scratch costs more than buying a engine and sticking it in, unless u can build engines.

7agte is cool, easier to fit in but requires work to make

2zzge is a good engine, dont worry about net rumours. this wil cost he most to buy AND to fit, exhaust etc wil cause a few issues. however imo itl lbe the coolest. isnt your car a show car? 2zzge would be the most WOW factor

unless.....

you went for the 3sgte WITH 4wd. that would be awesome.
if you kept the 3sgte and fwd.... well that would be my last choice.

as for which woul dbe the cheapest.....
toss up between the 3sgte fwd and 7agte.
7agte could be done cheaper, depends on how far you take it

How would a fwd 3sgte affect the cars handling?? I'm pondering the same question as Chris at the moment.

revehead...

yep car is goign to be a show car/ sunday driver

what are the main problems / weakness's with the 2zz and by adding the supercharger kit what problems does this introduce (where is the engine most likely to fail)

the only down side i see with the 3sgte + 4wd (appart from what i mentioned above) is getting it certified... what issues are there goign to be ?

4afte?

Cheap as chiiips,

Once you had the manifold and turbo you could start a graveyard of exploded 4afe's

Can keep current driveline although it will explode as well.

Getting it certified will be the LEAST of your worries

I'm with Warwick on this one, a 2ZZGE would be a very impressive transplant. Maybe not as quick as the others, but definately original. I guess the only problem with that will be that half the people who see it wont know what it is
