pro's and con's of the 3T and 2T?

Postby manwithav8 » Sat Sep 16, 2006 6:04 pm

Just wondering what the general concensus is on the 3T and 2T engine.

I have just got my hands on a T-18 sporting the 3T and also picked up a TE71 powered by the 2T.

Whats everyones views on these engines? Also please support your answer with a reason, just saying they aren't worth a pinch of sh*t will not help me.

Cheers

pros: reliable

cons: not much power in single carb form, and pushrod

I have a TE71 with 2T-B with twin carbs and it seems to go alright. Am ditching it for a 2T-GEU injected though.

Pros: bloody near indestructable, cheap to make go a bit quicker, cheap to fix, efficient crossflow design with hemi head.

Cons: don't rev like 4K's / 4AG's and a wee bit heavier .

when you say cheap to make go a bit quicker, what is the common mod performed on the T series?

Extremely solid design
some have clocked over 400k miles unopened.
Clueless folks generaly won't consider it a 'performance motor' due to its 2 valve head - its street/strip record couldn't care less.
simple to work on and can provide the thrills you want. Parts were cheap when I did mine.
Fabulous performance normally aspirated, sprayed or boosted.
I've seen full weight street TE72s run 10sec 1/4 mile 10+ years ago.
Race 3T broke the 7sec barrier long time.
3tc has earned its stripes. A classic
