3SGTE (Gen1) Vacuum Leak - Driving me CRAZY!

Postby MrOizo » Wed Sep 20, 2006 7:11 pm

I have quite a bad exhaust leak and its driving me batty.

I was advised from a mate on here to spray/pour water around the area to listen for when the noise changes from sucking it up etc.

I found that when tipping water over the intake manifold, basically between the #1 and #2 injectors, i can hear a nasty sucking sound. What is there under there like in the ways of vacuum lines that might have popped off?

The leak only occured in the last week. Went down to Plamy region and only started playing up on the way home.

I'm thinking that the boost has popped it off or something along them lines.

Could it be something extreme like a manifolf leak? is this a worst case senario?

Any suggestions much appreciated!!@!

Use a piece of 6-8mm plastic tubing to find exactly where the leak is. One end in your ear and as you move past the leak with the other end you'll just about crap yourself it'll be that loud!!
See ya

Put your head in and have a look. Easiest way to directly find it would be as above or spray brake cleaner or similar directly at where you think the leak is as it will make engine revs rise slightly when you get the right spot. Could just as easily be an inlet manifold gasket as much as a hose

What is the engine doing exactly?

Its got a really bas sucking sound. almost like sucking on a straw and the same noise as running out of coke is the sound it makes as i pour water on it.
When idling, sucks in/hisses, and when sitting at (Zero) PSI there is nothing and when boosting - leaks/hisses!

Have been looking around online and come across a few sites which pin-point the PS idle-up valves as being at fault.

I dont know if this would be it as the fault s really from taking the engine out and breaking it as it goes out or back in the engine bay.

When i take off one of the Vac lines from the TB, there is very little suction. will try follow that one tomorrow too.... not too sure where o look...

The area where i have been pouring the water and its been making the noises are arounf the red area in this pic:

This makes me think its something like the TVIS and or Fuel Reg VSV's

OK found the $&#$% prob...

did this by disabling the vac feeds to the PS idle-up, TVIS and the diff locking VSVs. still a vac leak from the same area tho so not them

I have found that the seat of the injector is fuccked - gave the #1 injector a wriggle and the leak stopped :? is there anywhere that i could get one today at all?

forgot that i prob have work and there be none of that if i can drive there :)

oops my bad!
