indicator flickering fast means...?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Tue Sep 26, 2006 1:49 pm

simple question probably, but i always forget...

is it because the bulb is about to blow, or dodgy wiring?

cheers.

As above, bulb/blinker fluid.
Also can be a wireing fault right up at the indicator stalk very occasionally.
or, the flasher unit itself even less occasionally.

If you don't have a blown bulb, check each bulb in case someone has replaced one of them with a 24v bulb instead of 12v. Easy to do and not immediatly obvious....

ok, its all the left-hand indicators which flash at twice the rate they should do.

* none of them are blown
* they are all 12v bulbs

if it is a dodgy bulb causing the problem, wouldnt it fix itself once that bulb is removed? because ive taken out all the left hand indicator bulbs and on the dash, it is still showing as flashing at twice the normal speed...

Check the small side bulb on the guard, check if all 3 bulbs (or 4, 5 in some cases) are actually flashing..
Try swapping the flasher unit...

yep, ive checked the lot of them and they are all flashing. htere is something dodgy with the front one on the bumper though, it stays on all the time i think.

i swapped the flasher unit with one out of a ke70, which strangely enough has ALL of its indicator lights flashing faster, but it was still just the left side when i put it in the starlet so doesnt seem to be the flasher unit...

ill see what else i can suss out about the bumper light... :?

check all earthing is good. On the bumper one check that there isnt any crossed (or even melted together) wires.
If all seems ok, I'd tend to have a closer look at the indicator switch to make sure all contacts are clean and good.
