I've cleaned up a few cars off the line in a FWD (numerous legacy/wrx wagons etc Avenir turbo), I launch around 3500-4500 no wheelspin just drive. I do realise they could potentially launch better than me... but they would have to drop the clutch at high rpm and would probably end up picking parts of their gearbox up off the ground. I've only ever been behind at the change to second once... in the wet... against an evo :o

Note that these cars are obviously standard though.. even a slightly modded turbo car should cream a 20v.

After a service though we noticed the rear shocks are really soft and ned to be replaced, dunno if that has anything to do with it?

there will be exceptions , but you cant beat physics , you're always gonna be lifting the weight off the front wheels as you try to get away. its exaggerated in higherpowered fwd's.

that said , i reckon i have enough mechanical grip in my car to get away pretty fast even with the wheels spinning, as it still pulls itself up to speed courtesy of an LSD and decent tyres.
i think my best 60ft times at the drags were 2.2sec, on the shittest federal tyres ever made. that was just dropping the clutch into wheelspin and flooring it til it gripped.no finesse at all :lol:

i believe in a fwd you want the rear shocks as stiff as possible to get away cleanly , as it reduces the lift to the rear and keeps the weight over the front wheels as you accelerate, rather than a rwd where soft is better at the back.


i tried a 0-100km earlier today , and i think i spent about 6 seconds in 1st gear with smoke coming off the tyres ,then about 1sec in 2nd gear reaching 100km. i wasnt really trying too hard tho :wink:

Using gyrascopic gforce meters up hill gives you false readings, even when your meter is flat, it still reads more g's when your going up a hill, so tells you that you have accelerated faster. So you probly still did more like a 9.5. 20v's are slow, so get a turbo or something :)

Yeah if you use a G Tec or similar, you do need a flat piece of road...bumps and rises can dramatically shave time :lol:

no g sensor was plugged in. so time was measured and speed was measured.
simple equation really..... so time was correct thanks.

And i have a 500hp supra in the works, so 8.54 from my daily isnt too bad.

also, power is decreased when going down hill, while power is increased going up hill when using a g sensor power run.

0-100 is simply that, how many seconds it takes to get to 100kph. no fancy calculations, just timer starts when the cars starts moving.

Just been out doing some setup and data logging on the focus,

and according to the data from the motec,

30kmh to 170kmh in about 10 seconds,
( from a rolling start, just picking two points out of the data)

Not a toyota and more than 20 valves, and more fun to drive.

Nah, 0 to 100k times suck as it's a bit hard to get off the line.

Tripple plate clutch, hollenger sequential, and 770nm of flywheel torque at 3000rpm make launches a thing that requires a lot of practise,

and was more setting up the logging etc etc than checking performance.

4.59 0-60mph, with passenger and boot full of tools. Fuel light on running Avgas. Turned around and did the same piece of road in opposing direction, 4.8 0-60mph with a bogged launch. Boost gauge didn't read high enough.

In my old 20V AE101 i did a 7.5 second 0-60 mph according to the g tech, that was launching at around 3-4000 and flat shifting from first to second.
That was on a flat piece of road.
It is a myth that emos are contagious, and you may be infected. However, it is still widely accepted to wash your hands after physical contact

I did a low 8s 0-60mph with my old AE82 Liftback with a GTech :D

My old VTEC Prelude used to do ~6.1s 0-60mph, my Skyline does 5.0 all day every day - and occasionally busts out a 4.8 or 4.9 if I manage to keep it straight (glares at Al with his MR traction haha). Thats only on 10psi with filter and exhaust - should be able to go quite a lot quicker next time I do it.

I launched my car at about 2,700rpm so wonder if i could have gotten a quicker time than i did (6.35) while revving higher and with only me in the car. :?


I really don't like automatic transmission.

Prelude and Skyline were both ~2500-3000rpm launches (manual though). AE82 had to make do with 3500-4000rpm with a mixture of clutch slip and throttle feathering to get the thing moving just to nasty single spinnerness mixed with complete lack of torque :(

Some cars you just seem to be able to give a bunch of revs and let them go - the old Domani (1.6 SOHC non-VTEC) I used to blat around in managed a sub-8s 60mph time, giving it around 4000rpm clutch slip/dump. It would just chirp the fronts and take off in a ball of the biggest fury you dare imagine. Then you slam 2nd, as though you're going to have to hang on for dare life - then nothing much really happened. You'd just wait around for 100kph to eventually easy on by haha.

To get 4.8s from i audi needs a straight 5k drop. The word "wiplash" comes to mind.

My old corona did 9.8-10 with me and a 100 kilo timer person :o Tried a couple of times... not so accurate of course. My favourite was the 160-0 brake test, we never timed it though. Braking is where it's at for "make your passengers anus quiver" kinda fun.
