Suspension Query

Postby TOYROTA » Tue Oct 10, 2006 8:55 am

Hey guys im just curious as to what parts i would need to change to make some AE86 coilovers fit into my KP starlet and also do any of you have the necessary parts to do the changeover that you would be willing to sell?

Any help or advice on this subject would be appreciated as its starting to mess with my mind.

thanks

Yep, if you use them, youll need AE85/6 Steering Arms and brakes. But you can still use your stock lower arms with stock balljoints.

AE86 coilovers with AE85 steering arms and brakes will be relatively cost effective, good suspension, slightly bigger brakes. Win Win.

Yep, you should still be able to use the MR2 2 Pots, id go with Nissan Bluebird or similar Rotors over the Evo Discs, just need a different shape adaptor plate.

Next question, WTF is your daily packing that you want 2 Pots? If its just a stock 4age or similar you will be fine with rebuilt AE85 brakes with good pads and fluid.

Aside from being excessively overkill, it really limits your selection of wheels, I hate not being able to fit small wheels over my brakes :(

good point

Postby TOYROTA » Tue Oct 10, 2006 12:25 pm

very good point bout the wheel selection, i hadnt thought bout that issue and as im retaining my 14" celica rims the evo discs are a no go. what model bluebird and are they vented discs?? its only packing a 4k so i know its overkill however im gunna start goin on the track as much as possable so i know my solid kp discs and callipers wont cut it

You'd be surprised, with new pads and brake fluid, and as long as they're in good shape, your stock brakes will work fine on the track. Its not like the car is heavy or powerful.

YEP A 4K

Postby TOYROTA » Tue Oct 10, 2006 1:32 pm

yep its just a 4k and they arent needed however i would like the bigger brakes so when i do decide to get a moter that has lots of horses inside it then i wont have to worry bout doin the upgrade.

so which components do i have to replace in order to fit ae85/86 coilovers??
lower arm?
balljoint?
tierod and rackend?

You need that bush in the link above, AE85 steering arms, tie rods, lower arms etc will be fine.
