I was just wondering what people think of products by JVC, was thinking a couple of 10" subs in single boxes, 500W amp, 6.5" component speakers in the front all by JVC. Opinions?

They make some pretty nice looking headunits. You may find you'll get better sound quality by using a few different brands as some manufacturers do a better job making one part of the systems while other do a better job of a different part. Depends on your budget too :)

as an entry level product for some upgraded sound its good.
Just don't go cheap and buy magneto or jonvy82 crap you get on tardme - get something with a warranty - various trademe dealers just don't provide the warranty unless you walk round there with a big bloke and a baseball bat..

I've heard both good and bad things... If you just want doof then as far as I'm aware JVC is good... I believe their sound quality isn't up there with the likes of Pioneer/Kenwood.

JVC had the biggest faliure rate of any product I have ever sold, hence the reason I don't sell it anymore.

Be aware of the all the parallel imported product around too, as warranty can be a problem. Best to stick to a local shop and get a of help and advice thrown in for free.

I started out thinknig JVC was quite a good brand for the price, I had one in my car, and my Dadand sister had 3 others in various cars,

They sounded good and worked well for the first 2-3 years but have now found that things are starting to play up on the units, Mine seems to have issues with loading and ejecting CD's now and the sound channels cut out intermittantly to different speakers at times.

Compared to various old Sonys i've owned, For instance one CD player I've had for about 8-9 years now is still going strong.

I'd Save a little more $$ and get a sony/pioneer/kenwood etc...

^^^ yea I agree.

My JVC heady its not ejecting CDs (takes about 5mins of $&#$% around)

Got a pioneer in my other car, its a lowish model and twice as old as the JVC, never given my any trouble.

As others have said, JVC IS good, but thats it, there just good.

from what ive read/heard/discussed with shop owners/workers;

Best bang for buck head units: Pioneer
Best bang for buck speakers: Infinity
Best bang for buck amps: Rockford fosgate
Best bang for buck subs: Infinity

Depends on what you want tho. For listening to music on the way home from school/work/church/soccer practice, JVC should be fine
ADMIN EDIT: oversized sig image removed - way too large

THat may be true for the mainstream brands, thou i can think of a few brands of speaker that would blow infinity out of the water for the same price. Your in chch, go see the dudes at pauls audio.

I personally have not tried JVC car audio but have it at home and i like it - had a prob where the amp died - but they replaced the system for me so was all good.

Did I mention I am tone deaf?

I like my pioneer head unit - although - coke makes the buttons sticky

alpine 9855 or pioneer P80 headys are great

amps e-audio, DD, alpine

in otherwords go see pauls audio on falsgrave st.

Yeah thats a great set up for you or me. But she probably wants to spend less than what a 9855 goes for on the whole system.

probably right, although some of this comes down to personal preference. I have infinity kappa series 6.5 inch components in one of my cars and handmade rainbow 6.5's in the other (I forget which model but the RRP of the ones I got is the same as the RRP of the infinitys) and while they both sound great I personally prefer the sound of the infinitys.

As for JVC I've had a couple of JVC headunits over the years and all have been easy enough to use and seemed reliable, but given a choice these days I'd buy an Alpine every time. IMO they are better sounding and the button's etc seem more sturdy. Plus if you get a highly featured one they can do some cool stuff.
