sr20det into ke20? possible?

Hey a mate has a mint sr20det lying around only done 70,000kms..
Ive heard talk about people wanting to put these in ke's yet not sure how successful they were and how much of a biatch it really is?

It's out of a bluebird which i think is an all wheel drive..So what will i have to do to get it to work with my rear wheel drive? And will it possible?
I know i probably sound like a muppet that has no idea...
But if i can make this work it would be pretty awesome..

I know its not a Toyota Engine and im sure im probably gonna get some sort of abuse from someone haha, but any help would be sweet. chur chur

seen a SR20 N/A in a ke70, needed to have the mounts modified as it sat really high in the engine bay and would have needed some crazy bonnet lift, length wise was ok. not sure what else he had to do.

there's a green twenty in chch with a sr and t4 in a four door
from mem it had a lot of firewall work you could change the back two plugs without dropping the engine also the gear stick was way to far back gut i;ve heard that you use a serena (van) bell housing with a rb20det box will shorten it up to come through the standard hole on a thrity

all in all it's alot of work i know jamming an sr in my 85 was a mission

A bluebird motor would be trickier too being transverse mounted. You'd need to swap a few bits and pieces around.

Yes, there used to be a KE26 S/W around here with an SR20DET in it.
Didn't appear to be anything tricky about it.

Its possibly not even worth it to start with a transverse sr20. The head would probably need to be swapped to a rwd one because of where the dizzy is on the bluebird engine, and i'm not 100% sure but i think there may be differences in the block too.

Bluebird engine: Note in a RWD configuration, the dizzy will be on the back of the engine, where the firewall is....

was an issue of nzpc with a real nice 70 with sr20det would be worth checking out if your interested.

Yeah, it would probably be cheaper/easier just to buy a rwd SR20 to begin with.

The distributor needs to be modified, you need all RWD manifolds (preferably use the rwd head, unless you have modified the firewall to suit the fwd distributor), and 2 holes need to be drilled and tapped in the block for the left mount bracket, lots of little stupid things. The oil return is in the wrong place, apparently the coolant port for the lower radiator hose is too long also.

so probably final answer is:
Yes, it can be done, yes you can use the bluebird engine, but its easier to use one out of an s13 or similar.

there is also a ke70 with a sr20det in on turbocorolla.com - you might be able to have a look at the specs of it and get some ideas from there...

and ofcourse it will be possible - anything is!! but they are BIG engines so there will need to be some serious mods to the firewall taking place before that engine even comes close to fitting in I would imagine...

Yea i think its definately better off going for a silvia sr20det. Too much playing around and time and money. Its just its such a mint motor i thought id ask to see what people thought.

yip itll fit, i had a 3sgte in my ke20, had to chop the firewall and everything. i even measured the engine bay and a 1jzgte and 1uzfe will fit in the standard enginebay, also a w55 fits in the ke20 tunnel, its close but clears.
