A/F ratio control. AE85 w/ 4AGE

Postby Stealer Of Souls » Tue Nov 07, 2006 9:36 am

Hey.

I got the car on the dyno over the weekend to produce an AWE inspiring  82.4kW @ the wheels.
The one thing I did notice is that there is a dip in the curve at about 3800 RPM due to the factory ECU richening up the mixture, plus a few other spots where the A/F ratio goes a little kinky.

The engine is a 4AGE. Smallport bottom end (10.3CR) with ported/polished bluetop head, MAP, standard ECU, intake, exhaust, fuel and ignition systems.
Can anyone suggest some good and simple ways of making slight adjustments to the A/F ratio. I'd like to bring the whole A/F ratio back in line and just smooth out the small bumps it has.
I was looking at the Silicon Chip Digital Fuel Adjuster from Jaycar, but it says that it might not work very well with MAP sensors due to the way the output signal works with load.

Ive got the silicone chip adjuster and hand controller built it, hand controller works fine, just the adjuster itself has a slight problem, it powers up fine but doesnt display anything on the controller, after doing alot of research it seems it will work fine and is ALOT better than an SAFC or similar,

I just lost interest after building it and it not working right away, I should really go over it with a fine comb and check for anything missing :S

But yeh seems like a good option. Have my hand controller and adjuster for $75 you just need to get it working :)

any reason why your running a ported/polished bluetop head?

the ports are already too big without some porting to make it worse haha, but i assume you mean its just a port tidy up

throw away that head, slap a smallport head on, then you'll gain some power

Yeah. It's just had the ports tidied up. I'm not really good with all the details. But the ports have all been tidied, and matched (???). I'm only using the blue top head for simplicity. No need to sort out a intake manifold or exhaust manifold. At this stage I don't have the inclination to spend time sorting them out. Just needed an engine that didn't chew up oil and water, belch smoke on hard throttle and generally ran nicely and reliably. The head was supposed to get a tidy up, but ended up getting a full polish complete with chamber shaping, valve grind, and port matching... (I hope I got that right...)

How much would you want for just the hand controller?
I've always found it more effort than its worth to troubleshoot work someone else has done, so I'll pass of the fuel adjuster...
