missing engine!

Postby ollieboy » Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:59 pm

I just put the head back on my 2t and for some reason its missing, it only keeps going if I have my foot hard on the gas. I've Tightened intake and exhaust manifold and dismantled everything and put it back together to double check but its still missing.

Any Ideas as to what could have happened?

Not sure.

Do I need to adjust it even on a pushrod engine?

Sorry I'm a noob when it comes to pushrod engines

Doesnt matter how the valves are actuated, they still need the ignition timing setup correctly

Sorry that wasn't very clear  lol

I meant to say, it was right when I took the head off but because there was no fiddling with cambelts etc. when I put it back on is there still a chance it could be off?

Did you put the distributor back in exactly as you'd taken it out? Other than that, I'd do a quick compression check, then if thats' all good, pull the leads one by one to determine which aren't firing, then check spark, then check fuel. If everything is okay, then you've got a random problem.. something stupid like a wayward spark from a dodgy lead.. 2Ts seem to love making their owners have to think! :)

Cool cheers, I think I put the distributor in exactly as it was taken out because I marked it all. Will double check tomorrow though.

Yep cap and leads are good I think, will replace leads anyway just in case.

Actually on second thoughts will test leads with multimeter.

I think it is spark related though, theres plenty of fuel pressure, I have a feeling its on cylinder one that the problem is.

I went to start it again tonight and it ran ok, only missed once every 2 or 3 seconds, running way better than before.

Would that point to anything?

Sounds like youve got a shitty connection on the ignition. cap/rotor/leads/plugs check them all. would be unusual for coil to crap out in that way but it could still happen

Its fixed like a fixed thing. The tappets were tight as a nun and that is where the problem lay.
