Caldina 1997 Headunit too wide for standard gap??

Hi all,

Just bought a 1997 Caldina (I think it's a ST19 something), and went to transfer all my sounds over. Finally got the dashboard trim off, but the gap in the dashboard where the standard headunit went seems to be too small for my headunit. Went to Repco and measured up some others as well and they all seem to be too big as well.

The hole is a double DIN size, and the headunit is a normal single DIN, but is about 3mm too wide either side and 3mm too tall if I use the stock brackets already in the car. I have already played around with changing the depth and angles and stuff but the gap really is is too small. Am I missing something or do I have to adjust the hole size with a hacksaw?

I've put a couple of units into 'dinas and they were fine.

You're not trying to use a mounting cage are you??

Yea my mates GTT is the same HU sticks out from the dash about 25mm, looks real shite. And he had a shop install it.

My car was a bit narrow so I just shaved the plastic back a bit, looks mint now.

Most detachable face units are designed that way so it appears that nothing is there when the face is removed.

Not mine. There's room to mount the head unit further back so the face sits flush. Lazy shop installer.

In answer to the original question - they are standard din width. You have faulty measuring equipment?

Same here as SNWTOY I have replaced my head unit too...

You are not trying to install it with the removable suround are you?

If so this will not work... Its will then be to wide...

You can however use a spacer and a single din head unit, and fit it into the space fine. Using the original brackets...

i'd be complaining to the shop
mine mounts nice and flush, and its detachable face

What sort of headunit is it? Pioneers, and maybe others, come with a plastic surround that clips onto the front. Take it off the headunit and see if it fits in the gap. Can you post of picture of the headunit sitting in the car and where it is not fitting?
