worrying WOF report

Postby Dirtbag » Fri Dec 01, 2006 3:54 pm

Just failed a wof today, not one of the reasons for the failure, but a comment he left was that there is a oily residue under the boot on my shock. I replaced the shock exactly a year ago (2 wofs ago) with a new strut from Revhead, and I am pretty sure they were gas.

Its an ae101 superstrut, can anyone confirm if they are indeed gas, and what the oily residue could be? Kinda worrying the fact that the shocks only a year old, and probably has around 6xxx ks on it

On a side note, how easy is it to replace the alternator belt on the 20v? Alternators are right down the bottom at the back if i remember correctly?

And finally, can engine mounts be replaced without lifting engine out? LH side engine mounts becoming rather worn.

Can I ask where you went?

Engine mount question: They sure can be replaced without lifting the engine out, although some can be more difficult than others to replace

Allans tyre and auto, about a stones throw from my house, thats why I use them. They are very very thorough, which is good and bad. Need three new tyres, but kinda knew that already, damn cars costing so much money

We get our tyres from Quality Tyres for work, and all our ones from compliance get sent there so you can pick them up cheap :D

what size tyres do you currently have and what brand?

as said above, engine mounts are replaced with engine in place, easy enough to do if you have tough knuckles

Gas shocks have oil in them too. They use gas and oil in combination as opposed to just oil.

Yup, lol, I got my last 2 for 80 bucks (for both) a lot of their tyres come from our Compliance, they only have to meet standards on entry to the country but after that you can use non standard ones which all of ours go there so you can get em for cheap
