FWD Gearstick "Floppy"

I'm new to the FWD thing, and wondered if a "Loose" or "Floppy" gearstick can be fixed. I.E Is it a bush like the W5*'s that can be replaced, or is it the sign of a well worn gearbox?

your car has cables operating the box , if the gear stick is "floppy " the spring on the gear change may have come lose or broken . The other common thing is the gearbox end of the cables has a rubber bush and these can crap out over time , I have heard you can replace these with a bearing to remove the slop .

also people who drive with their hand on the gear stick for great periods of time can wear out the selector shafts, which would be alot more difficult to replace than just the bushings

Broken selector cables are common in starlets, id put my money on that.

Cheers, a few things to check out!!
Broken selector cables?? Excuse my silly question, but wouldn't that make it not be able to change gears? It still changes smoothly but it's just loose (Compared to K50's and W55's).
Sorry, also wondering... What gearbox will this have, and is there an OE LSD that will fit the car?
