Power is useless if you can't use it to its full potiential i.e getting it to hook up but if you have a setup that allow's you to use it well then its unbeatable and for cars like mine making the power is not a issue but being able to use it to its full potiential well this is the trick.

very true, turn 5 at taupo was a good example of that, would so love to see the pics of me coming out of there, second gear at more than half throttle was useless :oops: but still lots of fun :lol:

Sat as passenger witness to that on the day. We chased down a couple of modified turbo cars and passed them all in about 6 or 7 laps. I was well impressed and a proud of the car and drivers efforts. :)

Another example is my old Levin race car. She was built for hill climb, had a standard bluetop 4age with a little bit of suspension work. She was walking all over 4wd, turbo and huge power because she was nimble, light and was the right combination for her events. The other factor that people forget to put in the equation is the driver. Talent and experience can often make up for a lack things in other areas.

Your lil car was also set up for it. Set the big cars up and they would at least match you.............go to a track with wider radius bends and they'd tear you apart. I'd still back a 600hp road car at Puke against a 200hp Targa car. The power matters there.

Lets be sensible, we didnt see AE86's beating GTR's at Bathurst or Puke back in the day :lol:

I've been in the car with you, and I am not in the slightest bit surprised that you were quicker than much more powerful cars. I've never been in anything that goes around corners like your car, and I've been in a few cars over the years.

FFS, who goes into the esses at Manfeild and grabs 4th!!!! Mad I tell you, totally mad.

Its horse's for course's no desrespect to you AE86 guys but as well as you guys went at Taupo where the track was tight with quick changes of direction this is where your cars are in the element but as RH9 has stated Manfield and Puke a half decent setup Supra or GTR or Evo is owning you guys by at least 3 seconds a lap thats just a fact and HP plays a large key here.
Another thing to look at is the fact that your cars are dedicated race cars where as for the average joe like myself who drive to the track and drive home.Slicks to also help your cause GRIP where as your average road user will have semi's at best,in my view slicks are worth 2-3 seconds a lap.So really when you look at it at Taupo where the track is tight and not that fast yes your cars are in there element.So us guys in the bigger cars with HP do really well to better or equal what you guys do but reality will kick in at Manfield or Puke.To stay with a Road legal GTR or Supra at Manfield your going to have to be in that 1.21 or under area or its just good night I'll see you in the next session or in the pits when I'm parked...

Exactly my point Coryn and I wasnt putting you AE86 guys down.......or any other car for that matter. Its just the facts the way I see them.

I got owned by Dave's Supra but hey im not crying about it. Its just motivated me to order some new semi slicks and install a few other goodies so next time my car might be more competitive when the scramble switch gets used on me :)

I don't disagree :)
Although 1.21s at manfield are just around the corner which is pretty fast for a road legal AE86 with a standard engine!

going fast in a small light car can be done with handling, going fast with a big heavy car can be done with power, it's combining the two that is sometimes difficult to do. it's the total package that makes the car at the end of the day.

that, and if the driver can't drive, then it's all for naught...

Heys guys my car has WOF and Regod and does 1.16 @ manfield not bad for a levin, By the way Steve Wilcock (who is unable to post replies at the moment) has asked me to point out that he was not running Slicks at track just some s**ty R881

That's impressive considering the NZ V8 touring cars qualify between 1:13 and 1:16, and a GT3 Porsche @ 1:09
