MSNZ motorsport authority card / roll cage Homologation

Postby TWSTD » Wed Dec 13, 2006 9:20 am

Mornign all.

Ok - ive got this wad of papers in front of me that I need to get completed and sent off.

1) The first is the MSNZ roll cage homologation forms. These have been filled out except Section 8 - which looks like it needs to be filled out by a "technical officer or technical advisor" - who would I go to to get this done? Anyone one here on TS able to do it?

2) The second is the Authority Card Application Form. Sections 2 and 3 also look like they need completing by an MSNZ Technical officer or Liscenced Scrutineer. Anyone here able to do this for me?

3) The third is the Compeition liscence application form. Now its a little unclear - but do I need to sit any form of test for a club spot liscence? Or I just pay the $60?

Cheers :-)

Are you are member of a NZMS affiliated club? If so, you can get clubsport licence by filling a form (which I assume you have), sign it off by a club official, and send it with a check for $60 to address stated on the form...

for the homologation. who built it.
if you did or your mate, you sign every thing as you built it and you know how it was welded, what tube and every thing, if someone else built it, and you dont know who it is, or what tube was used or anything, then youll need to email msnz and find someone near you thats a technical advisor to check it and sign.

For the licence, just fill it out, and send it off with your $$, no test required

Best just to flick Leon a Pm on here, as it will be him that will end up with your paper work on his desk

Now, you just knew I was going to answer this ....
1) Read section 8 again ... "where the manufacturer is unknown and/or construction data is unavailable". If your constructor has filled out the homologation form then Section 8 isn't used.

2) Authority Card is filled in by an "A" licence scrutineer or tech officer. Talk to your car club about who in the club do it.

3) You pay $60 and either have your car club committee person sign it off, or submit that form along with a copy of your car club membership card. No exam for Clubsport.

4) You do have a logbook form there too don't you? If not, you'll need to do one.

5) Don't leave it too close to Christmas, as I'm not here 22 Dec until about 3 January

6) Yes, I'm the person who does this for a job :)

Leon, your office recently issued a release about homologation of painted rollcages.
If one should have a rollcage that is already painted and has no photos of it prior to painting, and wishes to get this homologated, is there any way other than stripping the paint back off?
If it were built by, say, Possum Bourne Motorsport, would a declaration from that company about the standard of welding hold any sway?

First step would be to get a really crash hot set of photo's, so we can see as best as possible what we're looking at.

Second step, if we were in doubt still, would be to get a Tech Officer inspection done.

Third step, should we still be unsure, is the paint removal stage.

So don't start to panic just yet, but sharpen up your photography skills as best as possible.

Thanks for the responses everyone :-)

Leon - yes i did indeed misread the section 8 of the homolgation form  The rest of the form has been filled out by the cage fabricator and photos attached etc.

Yes I also have a log book form - all filled out ready to go.

Yes I am a member of an MSNZ affiliated club. I will contact the club regarding getting the Authority card form signed off.

Cheers :-)

Do it quickly because new motorsport rules are coming out which means the pipe must be welding all the way around.

Although I think this is a very good idea it also means you need to cut holes in the floor to drop the cage to weld the tops (where the roof would usually be in your way)

If you car isnt done like this get all the paper work and auditing done now. Im not sure what date the rules come into effect but if you get it audited after they come into effect you may need to do a whole lot extra work (if you havnt welded the tops already that is)

leon can confirm date

Nope, you've been listening to rumours.

I think you may just be getting mislead by the fact that a bunch of cars have recently been pulled up for having bits of weld missing (or simply insufficient weld), rather than any change of rule.

Just a case of poor workmanship leading to people needing to have stuff fixed.

Yes I have heard of people being pulled up for insufficient welds.

I have also heard from our club scrutineer that there will be a rule change in the future that all pipe will have to be welded all the way around. This came up at a recent scrutineer meeting.

I guess I have been misslead, you would be the authority on all of this.

I think it would be fair to say that scrutineers will be expecting better cage construction 8) You should see some of the absolute rubbish that hits my desk :x there are some awful cages out there, and the less of the rubbish ones the better.

Yep, but you're going to need to bung a post it on the renewal to request a change of licence renewal date.

When's it up for renewal, as we are limited by the FIA as to how many months we can issue a licence for.

I finally sent my paperwork off late last week - so i guess it should come across your desk some time in the next day or two :-) Once you have the following information can you please PM it to me as i need it for an entry form:

1) MSNZ liscence number

Many thanks!
