ae101 4agze gearbox compatibility

Postby TRD_ZERO » Thu Dec 21, 2006 7:15 pm

Im wanting to install a 4agze gearbox into my ae111 (blacktop). What will i need for it to bolt up? flywheel? clutch? cv shafts? or does it just bolt straight up no issues?

The 3rd and 2nd gear syncros are on thier way out they arnt bad but piss me off so i want a new gearbox and yes the plan is to turbo it in the long run. And even if i wasnt going to turbo it you make it sound like such a bad idea? is it?

itll make your car slower unless you have enough torque.
the ratios are different, the 20v won't be able to use it properly. the e series boxes are designed for a engine with torque at low revs revving to 6500rpm , the c series with the shorter ratios are designed for a high revving n/a to take advantage of it.

for example with a redline of 8500 rpm, my ae92 gtz gearbox does 110km in 2nd, and 165-170 in 3rd and some silly number on 4th.

the n/a series are more like 100km-140km-170km

oh and e series have shit synchros too

the ratio's aren't crash hot for a N/A engine

if u put the gtz box on ur n/a eng, it will go liek shit between gear changes, the ratio drop from 2nd to 3rd is huge and same to 3rd to 4th compared to the n/a box.

these are the speeds u would do in each gear with the n/a box
1st 55.37
2nd 92.07
3rd 125.94
4th 170.03
5th 215.10

this is with a gtz box
1st 59.63
2nd 93.72
3rd 143.78
4th 197.18
5th 233.73

this is done with a 62in rolling radius and both at 8000rpm, u can see teh big jumps in speeds on the gtz box compared to the n/a box.

yeah c series ratios are heaps better than e series.
even for forced induction.
c series is good for 250ish hp.
having said that torque kills boxs not hosepower.

so imo mild turbo use the c series box.

if your like bazda and are crazy get a e series :P
