another item in my pile of things to replace, my driveshaft hanger bearing was starting to scream before i pulled the box from the car. it seems logical to replace it now, it has heaps of play in it from every direction and is quite noisy when turning it.

my question is, how do i remove the damn thing from the driveshaft? i need to get it off to find a replacement.
i had to remove the whole hanger from the back of the block when i pulled the shaft out as it wouldnt give at all, i have removed the 2 clip things that would appear to be holding it in place at first look, and other than that it seems to be stuck pretty tight. its currently on the driveshaft and im getting very tempted to try the BFH on it and see what happens, just thought id check first before i start blindly bashing things. :wink:

any hints for getting it off?

the bearing is part of the shaft

Ummm... just hi-jacking your thread, sorry :oops:

I wasn't aware that these cars had the driveshaft hanger thingie (never looked). Does anyone know if they fit on an AE82? I'm looking at reducing the torque steer.

Press fit? maybe a press would be useful? :oops:

haha thats ok i was starting to doubt it myself. cirlip is off, just need a press now.
hmm i wonder if BFH qualifies as a press :lol:

PC theres 3 bolts holes just inside the drivers side CV on the gze block where it mounts to, not sure if 4age have them. may pay to have a looksie. its kinda just above the rear engine mount towards the drivers side a bit.

all ae101s have them
seems ae82/ae92 didnt

sure its not 2 bolts and one stud?

mine was 3 bolts, possible a stud had been removed or something tho.

it's meant to be two bolts and a stud, but if like me you run the different bracket for the alternator, i took stud out, packed it with washers, and have a bolt in there too.

ae101 non gtz have them
ae92/ae82 4age didnt.

just take circlip off, and tap it evenly, on opposite sides, and it will come off, it's not a press fit.

not sure if this is relavent but when i did the driveshaft on my ae92 gtz i had to get the hanger bearing unpressed and repressed on to the new driveshaft and no amount of smashing it with a hammer was able 2 budge it unfortunatly

yeah that appeared to be the case with mine. i tried everything but it wasnt going anywhere.

if they are not taken off often then apparently they are prone to getting very tight. i gave up in the end and took it to someone with the right tools, ie a press :lol:

apparently it was al nicely siezed up and took a heap of pressure from the press to get it off so i dont feel so bad now :lol:

just a matter of finding the right bearing to replace it with now, bloody hybrid vehicles
