removing headunit from RAV4

Trying to install a band expander for a friend of mine but I can't see how to get the stereo out, heres some pics of it:

I have tried removing the little storage tray above it to see if there were internal screws for the stereo surround but there are none. I tried plying it off with a screwdriver, but I have already made a mark on the vinyl crap, and not really wanting to do any more damage. If someone could tell me how to remove the surround it would be great!

all the vinyl surround will have to come of, looks like the screws will be going up, from the bottom.

If not, you could make the effort to trace the wires, and install the expander in a different location.

The black thing above the stereo has screws on the bottom, but the surround around the tuner and cdplayer is clipped so sturdy that I can't get it off without it feeling like everythings about to break, no screws that I can see for it. A hell of alot worse that the ae101 stereo surround, you can nearly use your fingers to remove that

Hmm, Kenwood. Does it use those little prongs that slide down the side of the HU

Give that surround another go, first generation rav's are one of the easiest stereos to get out. Get a flathead in behind the surround, pop it off, then all you have to do is unscrew the brackets from the car.
