3SGTE stud/manifold problem

Hi all
I'm new to your forum and forgive me if my searching hasn't been up to scratch...
98 GT-T 3SGTE... tractor noises.. Stud issue.. What's this bullshit an all-in-one manifoldturbo!?
I'm assuming the cause of this is a manifold warp so what are my options to remedy this properly.

The only way to really solve it is to replace it with the new manifold/turbo from Toyota, which IIRC has the extra bolt hole that matches up to the head. You could possibly get it skimmed to make it true, but its no guarantee it wont warp again.

yep new manifold/turbine housing. unsure as to whether you need to get a whole new turbo or can just get the manifold/exhaust housing.

factory casting was missing a bolt in the top left hand corner, as a result its common for the manifold to warp and crack. the replacement will have the extra hole.

i guess only god knows why they designed it this way.

warrick/mr revhead is toyota parts whore on here,and should be able to source you a genuine replacement at a very good price.

oh but you before you assume too much it may pay to confirm what your issue is, it could be something silly like an exhaust gasket, remove the heatshield and see if theres any visible cracking in top left hand corner of manifold.

probably worth getting new manifold and turbo or get custom one and do front mount i/c while u r at it than to get it planed/skimmed, mine got planed as thats what the warranty(mechanical warranty) wanted done as i had no say in this as i didnt pay to get it done. they did however put in a bracket and extra bolt on the top left to prevent this from happening again and its doing pretty well i might say

Just get another turbo, and an aftermarket manifold problemo solved.

Im afraid you have to replace the whole thing, toyota dont sell the manifold seperate. It almost seems like a when, not an if, with the pre-facelift GTT's. We do actually have a turbo in stock at the moment(I also work with the above mentioned MR REVHEAD), but its around $2000.

I would suggest having it planed and getting a bracket/clamp made up to go where the missing stud is.

I can see no reason why this wouldn't be a permanent fix to the problem, and it's a whole lot cheaper than a new turbo (unless someone else is paying under warranty, then get the new turbo)

yeah the clamp can work.
however i have also seen that fail. that however could be down to the person doing the job rather than the technique.

I can get a extractor manifold/downpipe to fit an MR2 3SGTE...
Will this fit my ST215 head?
Its a T3 fitting so would the internals of my current turbo fit int this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 763354.htm or am I pissing in the wind?
Any other turbo suggestions... Not intending to go above 16psi at any stage

At one point I was trying to see if a caldina turbos core would fit into a st205's(Gen 3 Celica GT4) turbo housing. I never got around to testing out the theory,but it could be something you might want to look into, though you would also have to see if the manifold from the same car would work with the st215's head.
