Tach not working!

Postby method » Tue Jan 09, 2007 9:50 pm

Hey my tacho isnt working anymore and i cant pinpoint the problem.

Checked all the wires and i know the tacho goes because the tach recall shiftlight can move it.

I checked the ignitor and all the wires seem to be sweet, the ECU is recieving a RPM signal becaise Tvis switches on and there is a rev limit .

Any ideas?

And jebus you've wired it up wierd, the wire goes all they way to the front of the engine bay then back to the diagnostics box then i loose it. I presume it goes back into the loom and to the ECU.

Could i just tap it straight off a ECU wire or did you do it like that for a reason?

Kinda hard to drive with no tach because the steering wheel blocks the speedo.. which displays the wrong speed anyway  So i usually just take my speed off the tacho and what gear im in.

Cheers ill have another look there then tap it straight from it. So not the ECU then.

Is it possible to "T" the wire off? Or does that mess with the rpm signal the ECU gets?

Sup si

ECU doesnt get the rpm signal that the tacho gets, ecu gets the rpm from the crank angle sensor.

You can splice the wire anywherem, will be sweet. It leaves the ignitor, splices off in two directions, one goes to diagnostics, one goes to tacho in the dash.

hope this helps

Yeah cheers just hooked it up to the coils negative but it still not going!

I hooked the "green" wire from the tacho, ive never hooked up a tacho in my life but i guess green is the negative input? They are usually pretty standardised.

I cant see the rest of the tachs wires but i supose its a power, earth, (acc?) and that green wire?

I tested the negative on the coil with a test light and at low rpm the light ever so slightly flickered so i did get the correct wire.

My tach recall shiftlight makes the tach go so maybe its a try solder joint... fun fun.. Still its funny how it was hooked up before, its got me stumped. And how it just stopped working.
