Wastegates and stuff

I'm gonna stick a dirty external on my MR2, does anybody have FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE with those dodgey Tial copies? Or am I better off buying the real thing at twice the price? We all hear stories on how they fail and you end up running mad vtax boost etc, but do they really crap out?
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

i'll give you first hand experience, as soon as you get it, pull it apart, locktite the screw that holds the diaphragm onto the alloy bit that moves up and down, then pull the grub screws out that hold the valve in there and loctite them and put back together

then it will last for bloody ages, like mine has, after i figured out what the problem was, it's been mint since then. my guess is that tial etc must do this when they make them lol.

oh and use very high temp loctite, (it's green)

and a the end of the day, it's controlled my boost damn well up to 20psi. but as i'm going higher, i'm swapping for a tial one, just for insurance i guess.

there are other cheap options besides the copies.
i use a standard audi quattro gate,i think its 35 or 38mm, and its been reliable up to 21psi. i will probly be upgrading to a tial soon anyway, more for aesthetics and space constraints than being unhappy with the audi item. if you can get hold of one cheap they are a viable option.

I'll probably end up getting a Tial, If I have to go through all that procedure, buying locktite and hope it'll hold, might as well go all the way and know it'll be good, don't want another boom boom, not that my engine can't handle the extra boost, but my MAP sensor only goes to 18~psi

yep mine only does 22psi so when im 1psi below that i dont like to leave any margin for error anyway.
plus its one less thing to worry about and in the scope of things 430 odd$ isnt much compared to what an engine costs.

Just going through the smae deal at the moment,

And same thing, due to thye fact that I cant afford a failure as a DNF or missed race meet will ruin my whole series,
have decided that wil have to go genuine tial.

looking around at the moment for the best deal.

Lol,

Could not afford to keep it then,
but that's always the way,
sell something one day,
need to buy another the next.

Why not try import a few? The way the dollar is currently, Tials will be bloody cheap.

Theres usually a few people flicking them off pretty cheap (tials not copies).

Should be able to find some 400ish already in NZ rather than needing to import them yourself.

Kenny, I got my TiAL 38mm from ATPTurbo.Com for mine - I think it was like $229US. Get a bunch from them! Everyone I know who have gone cheap externals have ended up aspiring to or outright gone for a TiAL or other name brand one for various reasons.

Why are you going external? Upgrading from dirty DP? Or are you going for a filthy MHI turbo?

hmm tial 38mm is $229US on there, which is $332NZ 8O

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merch ... y_Code=WGT

shipping weight of 3lb, which is 1.3kg, anyone care to price shipping from US to NZ at 1.3kg  surely it cant be that much, not the 100$ more you pay in NZ anyway.
