ae111 black top clutch replacement

Postby deaf_rattle » Sat Jan 13, 2007 11:02 pm

My g/fs friend has been quoted $750 to have her clutch replaced in her ae111 trueno with blacktop 20v?
Id rather not have to do another clutch job, but i suspect i might have to.

That quote was from pitstop and i have heard that they charge the earth.

Has anyone paid for a clutch replacement for one of these?

I did the silvertop 20v clutch in my ae92 and that took me 5.5hrs with abit of assing about and going off to get bits.

i would expect to be much faster the second time round.

Any prices or info would be great

cheers

$300-$350 for clutch kit

I think revhead can do the clutch kits for just under $300 so if you dont do the job yourself, you could supply the clutch to save abit of money.

my exeedy clutch kit for the silvertop cost me $170, i would assume same clutch as black top?

i did think we could supply workshop to do it. as far as im concerned, if i could do my first one in 5.5hrs they should be able to do it in 4hrs at the most (should be less) so at 50-70 an hour should only cost about 300 in labour

Check

If you are putting a standard clutch in ,check prices at partmaster, can be very sharp on their prices.Don`t get clutch plates with rubber blocks instead of metal springs.the rubber blocks go hard and cause bad shuddering on takeoff.

toyota quoted my ae92 about that years ago(~$700), when I was to busy to do myself. Ended up having a girlfriends dads mechanic do it for about $350 including parts.
Not an unrealistic price, but perhaps shop around a little more.

Id reccomend getting the clutch kit from trade parts the are pretty well priced. I got my exedy clutch plate only, for $78 funny though they make one for a ae92 gtz box that fits the blacktop flywheel, anyway try them.

Either way your doing better than me. I got mine replaced recently and also 5th gear syncro, and was charged $1300

Daylight robbery, but that will teach me not to shop around.

it wont be double or triple plate :?
will probly have slightly more clamping pressure and better friction material if anything.
while i was shopping for my new clutch, a clutch place that can test clamping pressure also told me a lot of supposed aftermarket kits use standard pressure plates and claim they are upgraded.

$399 is a sharp price for one of those clutchs.

partmaster at trade is approx $80 for a plate and $180 for a full kit. They usually supply exedy. When you shop around for quotes ask for price with supplied clutch and for them to supply it. It might work out cheaper to get them to supply it.
