Hey all, I've been through some of this on another thread somewhere but I've decided to do a bit more and see how it all goes...

My car has been having overheating issues, especially when under load (as in I had to stop about 6 times going uphill on the rimutakas, not once when going down though) or when I start driving after the car has been idling.

I've flushed the radiator and the block, replaced the thermostat and used a decent coolant/antifreeze and the problem still persists.

I've already got a new waterpump, cambelt, cambelt tensioner, and some bluetop cams.

Some people have suggested that the problem might be a leaking headgasket, I haven't seen any of the tell tale signs of a blown headgasket, but I figure this may be because it's only leaking. It's not using any coolant though.

Would it be worth putting in a new headgasket anyway?
The engine is fairly high kms.

Thanks

The fan comes on and stays on when the car is at operating temp, I figure it's constantly trying hard to keep it cool, so I figure that all that works fine.

Yeah I think it maybe, aren't you ment to replace your headgasket at certain intervals as a precaution anyway??

I figure if I'm gona have to do the headgasket after all this work I'm only creating more work for myself in the long run.

I'm also going to do the crank oil seal, for this do I have to take the pulley off and rip the old seal out then bang the new one in with a piece of pipe/socket that fits over the crank and on to the seal?

one thing to check tho before you do yuour head gasket, check for a blockage in the radiator

i know it sounds unlikely, but the worst thing in the world is doing the head gaset, just for it to overheat on you again

Peace

Is the new thermostat in the right way?

Have you done a compression test?

I put the thermostat in the same way the old one came out, is it possible that it could be wrong? the bigger side of it (with the shit that expands when it gets hot) is supposed to be facing the block side right?

I ran a flush through the whole cooling system for around 200kms I think, and after that ran water through the block until it came out the other side clear.

Yeah might take the radiator out and take it to a radiator guy, so that he can take the end tanks off and check it.

You need to take it into a garage pay the coin and get a tk test done, that will confirm the hg isnt at fault, if that checks out ok then you will no doubt have a blocked radiator.

The tanks need to be pulled off and the core needs to be rodded, backflushing the radiator isnt good enough, seen radiators 70% blocked even with inhibitor in the system.
