balancing flywheel

ok so i got my flywheel sandblasted, and its mint, however when i was oiling it up i noticed these holes in the back of it,

six holes:



they look like theve been drilled out, im guessing for balncing purposes?
ideas?

should i get this balnced before i put it on my engine?

yup balancing...

If you get it balanced again do it with the clutch, and idealy with the crank also but if you havent lightend it any further or anything prolly not worth worrying about

they recomend doing the crank wit the fly incase the mating surfaces are slightly off/angled.
You could get it balanced with the clutch just to make sure that side of things are perfect

IMO, it wont be out of balance just because it was sand blasted.

If it was mine i'd just fit it.

I take it the clutch plate surface has been redone since it was sandblasted?

ive upgraded too a ae101 lsd flywheel, so ive never driven this one, hence why i thought maybe i should balance it?

no the surface hasnt been machined, thats next i wanted to get the blasting done first.

tradeparts on wairau rd, do balancing and machining of the fly wheel. take your flywheel in there with your pressure plate(if you already have, or buy one from them) and get it machined and balanced, machining is only $50, and they normally have to check the balancing when they machine it, otherwise for example, you get it machined (by anyone) and you put your engine back togethr and then i flys apart when your driving it and the flywheel kills someone, its there fault for supplying your with an unbalanced/unsafe flywheel.keep reciept for proof of work.

i found a similar thing with ADL, when i got my driveshaft made, i took the bits in and said put this yoke on this tube at this length, when i picked it up the guy charged me for the work and then asked if i wanted to pay another $100 for balancing, i said no. i found out later that they have to balance anywork anyway, it just another charge so they can get more money from you. so my driveshaft had been balanced, as it had new weight etc on it. also a mate works there and was telling me that if they send a driveshaft out and its not balacned and flys apart(like the truck one afew years ago on the motorway) they can get charged with all sorts of stuff, and it wont be your fault.

cheers man, bnt said 40 buks as it only needs the slighest skim, probley dosent even need one, but id rather just do it, bnt will balance aswell surely?

BNT in PN don't balance if you walk in and ask them to skim the flywheel.

Bugger that, why take it to BNT when it's just as cheap if not more so to go direct. Unless they're doing a free machining with clutch kit deal or something.

A 2nd hand blacktop flywheel I'd just purchased to go on my 101. I couldnt find 'the guy' who did it for cheapish in Welly, and all the engine reconditioners were wanting $150 (skim + balance with the clucth), so I just went for a $40 skim from BNT.

Ahhh at 85000 rpm, she'll be right <fingers crossed>

I put a blacktop flywheel on my silvertop about 6 months ago (probably more) I got my brother to skim it at his work. He said it was already perfectly balanced, so I just chucked it on works mint.

Japanese stuff is perfect from factory
But in all seriousness, unless you want to build a heavily modified engine, balancing factory cranks & flywheels is probably a waste of money.
