Half assed repair jobs...

Postby astrae » Fri Feb 16, 2007 5:23 pm

Opened my car door this morning and as I lifted the handle I heard something break..

Closed the door, and I couldn't open it again. The clip had broken off the handle... Great..

I've pulled the door apart and couldn't see how the rod attached to the handle. It didn't help that its right near the top of the door and slightly obscured by glass..

So I pulled the other door apart. There is a nice big fluro clip attaching it. I searched round inside the door and all I could find was a broken cable tie... That must have been holding it.

I'm pretty sure my car was broken into before I bought it 2 years ago. There is a small amount of damage on the passenger door, the passenger lock is also missing its clip and has never been re-connected. (using remote locking so havent worried about it) I have a feeling it was broken into on the car yard. THe photos from the dealers website show a different stereo and there is damage inside the dash.

Anyway... If the door handle clip was broken in a break in on the lot, why do people have to do such half assed repairs... Suppose the dealer just doesn't want to fork out the cash.

I've had to re cable tie it for now. Where would I get one of these clips? Panel beater, locksmith, wreakers, toyota?

see wasnt that cable tieing easy, so now you have the oppertunity to leave it be, or you can screw around looking for a little clip, driving place to place.... then realise the amount of man hours you have put into it....

then look at that many hours in a mechanics charge out time

thats why the dealership stuck with the cable tie, perhaps next time they could use a stronger cable tie to hold it in place...

if its stupid, but it works, its not stupid

my friends car has been going on 2 years now on the drivers side cable tie... i work normal hours, thus have no time to go clip searching

not that id do it to my car personally, but i dont charge out to myself

lol, yeah does make me sound like a bit of a hypocrite.

I am going to replace it. I gotta get some interior clips and things as well. I'm gonna be keeping the car a while so want it to last.

i think you'll find toyota to be pretty reasonable with most of their pricing, and i think mr revhead might be able to cut you a bit of a deal (assuming he still works there!)
