And compressor surge isn't?

Not as far as anyone can prove to me.

Prove to me compressor surge is bad.

What standard of proof do you require?

Anyone with a modicum of intelligence can see that reversing flow though a compressor spinning at 100,000+rpm isn't going to be good for it. At the very least it heats the air up dramatically, at the worst it will break the shaft (ask Akane about that one), or damage the bearings or compressor vanes.

In short, compressor surge should be avoided, it's bad for the turbo, enough said.

As promised - juts a quick overview of my piping setup

There is NO AFM - as i used an aftermarket ECU on this machine

FMIC cooling was well capable of 170 + KW at the wheels on a standard ( steel shaft ) turbo - All pipes were HPC coated Stainless steel

I notice that nobody seems to run extractors any reasons why?

Cheers

because you dont need to

the stock 3sgte manifold is perfectly good for flow , just doesnt look all bling

if your going for mega Horsepower , a tubular manifold is a good thing to adapt up to say, a garret to position it better , but yeah - i know at least 5 examples personally running over 220 KW at the wheels with just the stock unit

So what your saying is i will gain nothing other than wank factor from the extractors? no power gain no back pressure gain, no 35% increase in power no nothing unless i run like mad insane power?

i come from a N/A world where extractors did something to your car, so the factory manifold is sweet

Thanks for the info you may of saved me some dollars

Oh youll get the very noticable benifits - about 20 or so extra HP at least but its really an unneccessary expense unless your chasing huge numbers.

For my group A - it will be a finishing touch - for the look , and for the final gain of HP , before that - you can get much better results simply by a decent exhaust off the turbo back , and a decent intercooler ( ie frontmount on a St185 )

My turbos fitted via factory manifold, using a Blitz Turbo kit.

I spent money on, allmost everything for my build and at no stage was it highlighted or an issue to replace it.

Im only using a new manifold cos ill be running a completely different turbo, and i didnt want to go to the haslse of getting different flanges welded on etc. Plus a little bling never hurt anyone   (no shiny bits tho :P)
