Yeah condition is the problem, my NZ new GT had full leather trim however the condition was shocking. Pretty much every other NZ new GT's interior I've seen has been in similar condition. May pay just to go with the charcol JDM interior?

I actually test drove this for the eventual owner.
suffice to say it was a pretty good little driver. Brakes and steering felt good and there was only a couple of little things like a little bit of bad right fender repair to moan about.

seemed to have been recently repainted as well and the leather in the back was worn and tired.

apart from that.. well worth the money that it eventually went for :)

NZ GT’s represent a time in NZ history before import tariffs were dropped and you could buy a car that was build and designed by Kiwi’s for Kiwi’s, they are unique to NZ. For me I feel the “big deal” is kiwi pride.

Plus they are great fun to drive, somewhat organic and un-diluted compared with newer cars. Bla bla bla… :D

My piece…

Ps; I have one in similar condition to the burgundy one (linked above) and I believe it’s worth every dollar, it’s a personal thing.

Yes it has a few unique touches but the car/engine was hardly a kiwi design.

Granted the AE-82 was designed by the Japanese, the GT was just improved by the Kiwis.

The GT is different enough from any other markets hot corollas to be perceived as Kiwi!

The 5-Door NZ GT was the only AE-82 liftback to receive a 4A-GE in the world; apparently it was Chris Amons most rewarding project throughout his time with TNZ.

Ty and think of a performance car assembled in NZ in the 80’s that’s as good?
