URGENT: Speaker help please, car to be sold tomorrow

Postby suped » Sun Feb 25, 2007 8:46 pm

My 2003 Corolla had Alpine Type R components infront and the right speaker used to always phase in and out.
Most of the time it worked but yeah sometimes it just crackled.

I uninstalled and replaced with the original speakers and headunit today, that right speaker does not work at all.

This surely must be a wiring problem? How would you go about fixing this?

I would really appreciate some help!

Thanks guys.

check the connections at the headunit and the speaker would be a real good start :)

Easier said than done, i dono, you havnt exactly given us alot to work with. Pretty much just process of elimination, ie is the wire ok? Is the speaker ok? Is the headunit ok?

I think the wire's pretty shit because it wasnt working 100% before.
But dunno.

How much would an auto electrician charge to run new wires?

We've done all the hard stuff and taken the components and amp out so might as well pay.

Dude it really depends, he could have to take half the dash out and take the door off or it could be a 5 min job. You don't even know for sure if it is the wire.

I presume the speaker is in the drivers door?

They break the wiring thru the door.
We do them quite often at work.

Options are to
Run a new wire across the gap on the outside - ugly and visable but works and is cheap.

Run a new wire through the existing grommet - takes time and can be fiddly, sometimes you have to take out 1/2 the loom from the car end, and sometimes it doesn't work at all.

Remove the whole door loom and replace the wires through the door shut.
- expensive and time consuming but the best option, you dont know how many other wires in there are about to break aswell.

Oh, thanks so much for the in-depth reply man.

It probably is broken through the door.. well I have a fun day ahead of me tomorrow then.
Taking the bloody headunit was a pain in the arse, the centre console is so terrible in these things.

also you can always put a muilty meter on ohms between the wire & the H.U & the wire @ the door to see if its the wires or the speaker its self
The faster you go the quicker you get there

Just pull the head unit out and run a wire from which ever side isnt working to the speaker, if it springs into life then its pretty obvious that its the wire,

if its not then its either the speaker, check with another speaker

or the head unit, replace the headunit

pretty simple
Nothing to see here ...
