ae92 cvs

Postby slighty_sykotic » Tue Feb 27, 2007 11:33 am

Hi,

Anyone know if ae92's normally have a "tripod" type cv, or a ball race type outer cv?.

Want to tow a car with no gearbox, and axles are hanging down, would like to break the outer cv in half (need it to be tripod type), so that I can tow it without axles hanging everywhere.

:(

Bugger....

Anyone got a set of cvs around the palmy area I can borrow?

(its too difficult to get tools out to where this car is, remove shafts, remove cvs and put back).

And I can't get a trailer there.

yeah.... but i have to tow it a fairly decant way... If worse comes to it, yeah I will tie them up and tow it to somewhere I can get a trailer or tools to remove the cvs.

You can't tow it without a cv in place. The cv holds the wheel bearing/hub together.

I cant think of a cv drive application where this is not how it works.

yeah, if no luck, go with the cable tie thing, but get the big jobbies, use several a side & use grease

It doesnt fall apart straight away, but it will $&#$% the bearing, and if its all loose (ie, been apart before), its going to fall to bits.

If its manual non supercharger (c52) it'll be the std tripod outter cvs with the single circlip holding them on. Im not sure about auto thou...

You can tie the driver side up on the cross member, and hang something down from the engine mount to hold the passenger side up, I would do this to stop the spline getting all chipped and mashed.

Is it supercharger or na? I know supercharger have the ball bearing/race arrangment on the outters as ih8tec said.

lol at removing the stub axle thats just looking for trouble
