1992 Camry Shaking Under Acceleration

Postby GT4RGED » Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:31 am

Hey,

My 1992 SV33 Toyota Camry (3SFE) has a shake under acceleration. It generally only happens at above about 60kph from 3rd gear onwards and only when accelerating. If I let off the gas, or chuck it in neutral the shaking stops. I dont believe it is a wheel alignment or balancing problem as there is no shudder/shaking through the steering wheel at all, only through the motor & body of the car.

The rear engine mount was replaced only 3 months ago and the other mounts seem in good condition. I also thought maybe a misfire problem? The plugs were replaced not long ago, but cords and other parts are an unknown age.

Has anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas what could be wrong? Its extremely annoying.

Thanks

Good plan Warwick!! lol

Nah not really any knocking or rattling. It feels just like a wheel balance problem, but I've had those before and generally I can feel it through the steering column, but there is nothing like that this time round.

Also inner CV. We had a Camry rental car that had a big vibration under heavy throttle only. This isn't a dark wine coloured Camry import 1800cc number plate UT3791 is it ... ;) No, wait, you say its a 2000cc, thank goodness

(I am afraid that I think I can remember a number plate from a job I left five years ago)

A common problem

Postby andyztouring » Thu Mar 08, 2007 5:52 pm

A common problem these Camrys have is the top strut mount (hat)wears out, which can cause vibrations.Best to fit a new strut hat as s/h ones are either worn out or already sold.

Thanks for the ideas fellas. Its not really a vibration its a shaking. Like a side to side shaking. Someone suggested a wheel bearing??
