Making it as good as SuperStrut

Postby normality78 » Thu Mar 08, 2007 12:34 am

Well, as most of us know by now, its quite tough to make SuperStrut balljoint and lowerarm last longer thn stock macpherson. Hence i've decided to drop our my SS and convert it back to macpherson strut since mine was already producing hell alot of noise.

my main task now is to fit back the twinpot brake system. yeah, i do know it need to mod to be in order to fit which im fine with it. The only thing i wanna know is, issit only SuperStrut comes with twinpot from AE101/111 chasis?

Following is to make my macpherson setup to be as close as SuperStrut feel and handling like. Any suggestion how to do about it?

Or you could save yourself a lot of time and $$ by just buying new genuine ball joints which will last another 80,000kms.

what are you doing to the car to need to replace so often?
as you say, they dont tend to last as long, but longer than that...

Reconditioned ones only last 5-6 months, new genuine toyota joints will last a lot longer. This is from personal experience

I dont know of any machpherson strut corollas comming with twin pots.. (would have saved me a lot of effort).

About all you can do it play with the camber, possibly caster..

n.b You will need new hubs, modifiy the caliper carriers, reduce the size of the ss rotor + new brake lines. On the up side, keeping the dual pots wont stuff up your bias, as changing them will. :?

Well i dont really trash my car around but the road condition in whr im living is really bad. i believe they are really genuine as its taken from scrapyard frontcut, which aesc has mentioned. hehehe.

neo, i did came across AE111 BT front cut that came with twinpot and its from macpherson strut. Not sure it is being changed before hand thats why im seeking for clarification. I've measure up, the BT 11" rotor size is directly bolt on but then caliper need some mino mod clearence to be in order to mount in.

as far as i am aware its more pissing around and costs loads and loads of $$ to convert SS to MacP

also as far as i am aware only the SS versions that come with twinpot calipers

dont fcuk around and just ring Warwick and get some new genuine joints, then you wont need to replace them all the time like you will if you decide to go the 'cheap' way and use second hand, aftermarket or reconditioned

I could maybe understand getting the joints reconditioned back about 3 years ago when the part cost around $1100 from Toyota, but for the sake of $165 or whatever they are now you wouldnt not go genuine

And yeah quite right Santa, converting from SS to McPherson for the sake of the ball joints is complete madness
