I just hate the way that all the kids who do that dumb S**t make people think that i'm an idiot. I get angry looks from people for taking it up to 3.5k in 1st gear. Everyone assumes that because i'm 17 and own a loud car that i'm doing something illegal, all the time.

Actually, I believe better smoke is generated from burnouts in residential/densely populated areas.

Seriously though, I think Duynhoven seems like he has his head screwed on the right way. His points re: the noise signature of the vehicle and how they are driven gave me hope that there is in fact someone in the government who vaguely understands, and that they don't simply share the "KILL ALL NOISY BOYRACERS NOW" attitude of that other fellow.

Like others have said, time/place/manner in which it's driven.

You'll notice they used clips from last weekends' 4s and Rotarys, like traffic backed up everywhere, people racing.. but the fact that the show was the reason for such large traffic levels was mentioned once, and very quickly at the start of the piece, once more some fine investigative journalism by John Campbell!

I also noticed that during the recent V8 meet a few weekends ago, there were quite the few bogans in town, I even was held up along Colombo whilst a tidy VK did a decent skid a couple of cars in front of me, however this didn't rate a mention either, JC preferring to rant about the influx of jap imports..

And way to go with the "fed-up resident" clip, you've got some idiot woman, who lives near an intersection on Fitzgerald ave, complaining about noisy cars racing..

a) She has lived on Fitzgerald for 18 years. Surely before she bought the place, she must have considered that it was on a 6-lane, main road?

b) On this 6-lane, main road, are a large proportion of buses and trucks, with the bus station itself on Fitzgerald. However, even with loud buses and trucks, and the huge volume of normal traffic 24/7, she whines about a skid/blowoff valve a few times every Friday and Saturday night. I guess being a whiny bitch is one of her strong points?

c) How do they find these people? Get someone to do a skid, see who comes running out, then interview them? Getting 1 or 2 peoples' opinion isn't fair, they missed out the 10 neighbours either side, who don't care about the "boyracers", or whom the noise doesn't bother them.

I just laugh at these "closeups".. the lack of quality reporting, one-sided information and the fact that they didn't even interview any "car enthusiasts" to try and paint a fairer picture speaks volumes.

As sad as it is, the story still appeals and gets ratings.

If they were scraping the bottom of the barrel, they'd have a story about "irrelevant keywords on Trademe"

Similar feature on Close Up on TV1 tonight regarding how we finance "our flash hobby" to quote Mr Sainsbury himself.

Hopefully not another crass generalisation.

I saw that, wasnt bad, jut going on about how these finance deals are marketed as "easy cash" and how people who were too dumb to know better (implied but not said) were getting sucked in, they talked to a guy who had racked up 30 k in debt but he was 3 1/4s of the way through paying it off.

So yeah the article was more about how easy it is for an 18 who earns 250 bucks a week, and has no assets or savings record could walk out of the bank with 10k in his back pocket, lose his job 3 days later then the car that he bought with the 10 k blows up the day after he bought it. I think because he chose to buy a car they focused on the car scene, showing scenes from what looked like the SI nats. They were making hints that all the flashy show cars (rice IMO but some people like it) were to blame for setting an un-fair example, (similar to the whole skinny models being a real bad example and turning young girls anorexic)

I have that thing going on where it only renders in weird oranges and greens.

Its a codec thing that I usually go-around by using VLC and not WMP. Not sure how to fix that for streamed video (and they are good enough to hide the actual url of their vids to prevent them being leeched for offline view)..

They have the program about boy racers and how they're a menace, yet a couple of days later they were teaching one of their journalists on how to do a burnout? wtf is up with that?
