what would the smoke be caused by? we thought it may be a cause of high boost, diesel oil and the breathers blocked off. the rest of it is generaly a nice car..

Why are they running diesel oil?

The blue smoke will quite likely be the valve stem seals if it's only on startup.

I'd steer clear from what you say. THere is no reason to run diesel oil in a petrol car in the first place. And the breathers are there for a reason

Yep... they are known to do that.

1. Don't buy the car.
2. JZ should not have diesel oil in it.
3. Don't buy the car.
4. The guy selling the car sounds like feckwit.

That will be all.

My thoughts were that possibly the oil rings are worn, hence the use of thicker grade oil to help keep the smoke down.
$11k is alot of money to pay for an old car now, regardless of mods.

Was a manual twin turbo Soarer in the Buy/Sell on Friday for $6500 with something like 47,000kms on it. Don't go for a half rooted one when there are plenty of others around for less money

Motor Oil for Diesels has greater ratio of detergents in it because of more carbon build up. It is not thicker, the weight spec is the viscosity eg 15w-50. If it ain't legal , don't buy it, breathers blocked sounds like crank pressure issue, I think you wil just be buying this guy's problems

Viscosity is a measurement of thickness is it not? I think factory spec oil is a 10w30/40.

Yeah, that's what I meant, it's thicker coz of the viscosity not because it's diesel oil

ok, its getting a cert this week, but as a extra condition i want to take it to vtnz and a indipendent mechanic, also his excuse for the smoke is a dual fuel relay switching between 9v and 14v on the fuel pump

Definitely a load of crap. Fuel pressure is controlled by the regulator not the pump, therefore any change to the pump voltage will not change the amount of fuel delivered by the injectors.

Most likely cause is either valve seals, or worn turbos
