As per title.

My new KP has no stereo at all, how do i go about wiring in the power wires to get it running?

All I think all I will need is a constant and AC.

Do i have to run them from the ignition or can i splice something off the heater loom or run something from the fuse box (actually, do they have a fuse box inside - only owned it a week so havent checked!)

I really dont want to run the constant from the battery if possible.

have a look under the dash with a multimeter. Usually, most looms have a few wires that dont plug in, but do have power.
If you have a ciggy lighter, just splice off that.
Could always take a feed from the ignition switch easy enough, or if worried about interference, run a main from the battery with a relay from the ignition to turn on/off.
also depends what stereo you run, most newer units require a switched and constant 12v
In ways, starting with a car with no stereo is better then swapping a factory unit imo.

We did it in my mates car, I think from memory we took all the power that we needed from the clock, then just chucked a slightly bigger fuse in the fuse box

Running a constant from the battery isn't a bad idea. Gives you higher RCA output voltage, theoretically higher amp power etc etc, and it takes the strain off thew factory loom.

I actually have 8 guage cable running my Alpine.......

we ran a constant direct from the battery in Hawks KP, and ran the ACC off of the Ciggy Lighter =) worked a treat

I know from experience of fixing someone elses f**k up that taking power from the clock on a KP is liable to cause all sorts of problems.

I run a constant from the battery, with my switched feed spliced into the ignition ACC wire. And my heady is in the glovebox so I can maintain the original AM Fujitsu radio running a single centrally mounted speaker in the dash.

thanks for the tips

I needed to get it running in a hurry on the weekend as i was taking it on its first trip to taupo. Listening to a whining diff the whole way wasnt a pleasing prospect....

Have spliced the ACC off the cig lighter and the Constant of the clock for now, but only until the 6x9's go in this weekend (the rear parcel tray is turning into a work of art) then will re-do the wiring using a multimeter to hunt out a constant on the factory loom.

No, thats a bad idea. Go direct to battery with an inline fuse. Its so so easy. And how will you know which circuit your breaking into if your using a multimeter. I guess you could pull random fuses....do it once, do it right.
