I beg to differ, if Auckland was nuked, we'd all have a party & either Wellington or Tauranga would become the new port of choice for imports & exports (as Tauranga allready is for exports) & as an added benifit we'd all hear less whining.
And i remember about 3 years ago all of us having to pay 10c a litre more for petrol so Auckland could have better roads. Now i didnt hear Aucklanders complaining that this was unfair. How is it fair that someone who lives in Dunedin (like i do) pays for roads in Auckland i dont even use everytime i fill up. They did a brakedown of the 10c a litre levy somewhere & 8c of the levy goes to Auckland & 2c for the rest of the country!
Also another 10c a litre for the whole country is political suicide, whereas Aucklanders will get over it in a few weeks when they find something else to moan about
