Help a Mitsi Man.....

Ok, so this prolly the last place anyone's gunna give me sympathy, ever since switching to a Mitsi over a Toyota :P

Anyway, some may know, I blew my engine at manfield. Something bad... as always.

I'm looking for, if possible, an Engine Hoist for a weekend over the next couple of weeks, some one with some engine skills, anyone who wants to come around and supervise / talk b/shit and mock an innocent n00bie with an engine problem.


Not sure when It will be, but prolly one of the next few weekends.

but seriously..... this weekends shot, but im sure at some point over the next week or two i can pop by.

buggger, you've had the worst luck with that car from day 1 :cry:

Do we know whats happened?

1st question. Do you have tools. IE not a 1/4 motorguard socket set, I mean tools... <I cant say how may times Ive gone to help people and they dont have the bare essentials>

im assuming we're just hauling the engine?

I can maybe get engine hoist, if somebody has something big enough to haul it in. Needs 4wd or van.

dammit.

that was my plan before i realised how much it would cost to do that to a later model 4g63.

but can you say 280+ kw with close to standard spool ? :P (if you use a td05 exh housing)

mate of mine runs a 2.3L on the standard tdo5 :lol: makes around 240kw atw before the turbo chokes at ~18psi. doesnt rev as well either.
id say do a straight replacement, the later versions dont actually go bang all that often.

they are actually really reliable in terms of not going bang, its usually poor maintanence or extended abuse that will kill them. i think theyve been known to run bearings and the like tho.

Nah, Evo 9's have a bung turbo. They actually had to homologate a new turbo for the rally versions, as the standard turbo's were popping all over the place. This includes totally stock standard ones being driven around the streets.

evo 9 = now 3 turbos homologated for them
they also suffer overheating issues when driven hard..... which they were built for

That sucks Tazzie :cry: , nothing worse than a blown engine when having some fun at the track :x

I'm contemplating getting an evo myself, would you mind giving me a PM with some info on some of the problems you've had? Just as a heads up on the later AYC evo's. I haven't decided if it will be a 1-3 or 4-5... mostly depends on how much I get for my 86.

Hey guys.

Thanks for the mostly positive feedback.

AS it currently stands I have sourced and Evo5 block from the Naki, all going well, it'll be fetched this weekend, worse case - during next week.

Yes its a basic (i say that loosely) remove old block and put in new block.
Once i get it in, i'll start it up and if it goes, it'll be off to speedtech for a tune. (if i have any money left)

I've arranged a car trailer to get the car from Kirks to Home. Which should be done this week sometime. As soon as I get it home, i'll be marking it up and unbolting the required parts. I have sourced an evo4/5/6 workshop manual to assist in the process.

Tools are being taken care off by a Fuelquip technician with a $3k tool kit. So if he don't have it, i'd be surprised... but then knowing my luck, i'll be missing something :p

So basically, at the moment, i still need a hoist. Happy to pay some $$, current quote is $43.76 for 24 hours from hirequip in town.

I'll post more when I get the block down here and arrange a time to get it out.

Leon - have a ute to transport the block down to home, so should be able to get the hoist if its available.

Revhead - If you've got a hookup for parts that'll be sweet, looking for water pump as its been advised to replace that while the engine is out.

Might need some belts too, the new block is 85k, so will be looking at a cam belt, since it'll be out already...but then we got a new one on the current one about 30k ago.

Neo - Apparently, Kirks reckon a piston has collapsed... They mentioned they could take it all apart and give it a good look, but would be about 5 hours labour. But at their prices, would be $500. SO by the time they look at it, try and fix it and then reassemble, it would be at least $1500+ anyway.

If trailer plan falls through, then one of the HCCC boys runs a car transporter. Gerald on 021 144 0096

If you have access to van or 4wd for transporting, I should be able to borrow rather heavy duty engine hoist from a workmate (it is sitting here at work currently). edit: I see I posted while you were typing reply # 2.

When do you have ute? For hoist planning.

Hey Tazzie

with the block you are getting from up the line, are you planing on giving that a freshen up before you put it in? i.e. new seals, gaskets etc etc? or do you know thats already been done ?

would save a lot of effort & time to do that while its out and easily assessable eh

How's the manpower looking Taz? Im keen to give you a hand if you're down on numbers (assuming the date suits me etc).

I'm proactively getting my engine rebuilt at the moment too. Toyotas revenge on us converts perhaps?

The Block up the line is 85k old, im not looking at doing anything else at the moment as I don't have the cash to put into it. I know it would be easier, but it'll be end of month before I can afford the parts.

The ute is readily available after its been aquired from my mates ex. I'd rather sort out a weekend and then get the hoist for those few days, saves putting anyone out by too much.

Silvertop, sure seems that way. But then my Toyota blew up practically the same way :(
