First cars

Thought this might be interesting..

what did people have for first cars?

My dad bought this brand new, it was a nice car until i got my hands on it.

Had big plans for this car, but it rusted away
1986 holden camira 1.8l opel engine auto (got it up to 205kph)

my real first car was a 1976 morris marina. what a beast! sold it on early this year, after doing me well, and lasting the distance, even though i gave it shit. lol

was burning a lot of oil by the time i was done with it, but still only ever let me down once... which was when the slave cylinder seals gave up the ghost. $20 seal kit, half an hour, and she was back running again.

I had lots of cars before that.... but none of them were real milestones. i got my restricted in the old marina, so thats why i class that as my main car.

Suzuki SJ-410. But we didn't have that long, and ended up getting a Suzuki Escudo.
After that was the Nissan Sunny. Still miss that thing!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

My great-great grandfather gave me the keys to his 1972 Peugeot 504 for my 15th birthday, a very cool gift. In many ways it was a great car - 4 wheel disk brakes and independent suspension, it handled beautifully and rode bumps in a way only French cars can. The auto tranny had no lockout between gears so I could (and did!) drive it like a manual and it was way cooler than the old Datsun Sunny, Mazda Familias etc the other high school kids had.Unfortunately the motor was gutless, disliked the rain and had a bad habit of overheating. Eventually the old girl gave into the rust scurge but I still have fond memories of it :)
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

1981 Datsun 720 flatdeck in traditional beige, with bullbars, mudgrip rear tyres, L18 and column change. Was epic.

1986 Mirage 4 door hatch
silver with a louvre on the rear window
1.3L carbed, 5 speed
velour (it was the GLX model  )

Capable of a mighty 155km/h!

Then, a maroon NZ new EF civic sedan with a D13 (?). That'd pull 180 easy, most impressive - who needed an SiR?

then a 91 G-Ltd MR2
then a 91 GT MR2 which I've had for far too long really (i'm 28 and only had four cars!)

First car i had i still have, 1992 manual silvertop fxgt. Had it over 6years now, still going strong.
Though i sometimes wish i had brought paddock bashers like all my mates. Though there was 1 occasion in cromwell where i decided to go paddock bashing in the mighty fx & got at least a metre of air, and amazingly didnt break anything on it, though my head was a little sore from hitting the roof & there's still a dint in the passengers footwell from a rock i hit
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983
