Education in Engine Management - book suggestions?

Afternoon all.

I am wanting to learn more about the technical and theoretical side of engine managment and tuning for performance. Has anyone read the
following book, or can perhaps suggest alternative literature?

I believe Corky Bell's Maximum Tune touched on tuning boosted engines too

wow i just bought the same book off amazon allong with maximum boost by corky bell, street turbocharging by mark warner and the engine builders handbook by tom monroe.

that tuning book from what ive herd is a good read and it also has a about 1/3 of the book about project cars he has built and tuned.

maximum boost by corky bell has some dubious info in it. I'm not sure if I'd trust his engine tuning info too far based on that.

That book is ok for a primer on the subject, but I found it a bit basic if you had some tuning experience.

Look up one of the Bosch Engine Management automotive handbooks. Or "The internal combustion engine" by Heywood, or Taylor, for a bit deeper theory.

What i really want to read up on are things like:

*What sort of AFRs to tune for under what sorts of loads in what sorts of engines
*Whats the relationship between EGT and AFR and what factors affect this
*Methods and practices for tuning an aftermarket engine management

Given this, what would i best spend my money on at this point in time? Perhaps one of the Bosch offerings?

I think Haynes Engine Management books covers all those topics without getting too technical, though I can't recall if it has EGT-> AFR relationship as there are so many other things that affect EGT. Easy to read and understand, unlike the Bosch books.

Haha yep, its pretty hard to hold of. Its not always right but its good as an initial guide.

To be honest I wouldn't waste the money on 21st Century Performance after reading it. I mean, it is not like the internal combustion engine is particularly new, and there is a wealth of knowledge in your local (if you're near a main centre) university mech engineering library.

I have found some brilliant websites though - the autoshop101.com is great to get an overview, and there is a series of articles here:

which gives you exactly what you're after in terms of AFR vs EGT. Most of it requires a little thinking through, but he backs it up with excellent examples. It is free to register for.
