why bother?

putting a new dash in is no big deal, sure as said before it will show up on the VIR but you can easily explain it to a potential buyer by saying "i swapped all the evo gear into it and wanted the evo dash too, the true km of the vehicle is XXXXX and show them a pic of the 2 dashes side by side or whatever".

It's not like you're doing it to intentionally fool someone into thinking it has lower ks, you're reason is legit.

Pfft why would I want to talk to that dick? /will do

hey fluck you! i can still weld your intercooler inlet pipe arrangement on back to front and upside down  :P

nah mine was easy enough, just took readings of both speedo's so come warrant time i can work out how many kms are on the car.

Hows that going anyway, or do you need to wait till your next welding session?

Thanks everyone, question re: odometer is pretty much answered.

Matt Dunn: What were you meaning when you said "You are not allowed to remove the chassis number and weld it into another car,
But you can remove the entire car from the chassis number and weld a new shell onto the chassis number....... "
???

I'm totally confused as to what you mean..

Stupid way the laws are written,
the two ways are the same thing, just how you define it.

So are you saying it is possible to legally put/weld the chassis number from a NZ lancer into a non compliable evo shell then get it certified as if you've reshelled your nz lancer but put evo bits in it at the same time? If you word/define it right.

Seems too good to be true

Pffft, we'll see who's had the last laugh when I inherit 10 million dollars from a nigerian prince!

It should be coming through any day now.

Only if you paid them the $500 insurance to cover the transfer and delivery fee,

Slideways,

kinda depends on the wording, but I think there is a limit on it.
I know it has been done, but if it's 100% legal, dont know.
You may find you need to transplant the whole firewall or some stupid stuff. The one we did was a deregistered accident damaged vehicle so had to go thru repair cert and a lot of other stuff too, and the chassis number on the vehicle we did has the chassis number stamped on the inner gurad not the firewall.

To be 100% sure you will need to do your own research on your particular vehicle.

Cheers Matt, the car I'm looking into is an Evo 1-3 and most people suggest it is best/less hassle to swap into a gsr/mx 4wd.

Also the chassis number is on the firewall so I would suspect it could be a case of taking the whole firewall out which is more hassle than its worth I think.

or just get an evo 5...hmmm

hows that?

maybe its from my days of reading british magazines, but reshell = keep same number plate and identity and rebody a car. as todays cars are of monocoque construction, you cant do that. your actually swapping the plates etc to another car. which you cannot do.

noooo thats not what I mean.

Me = get NZ registered road legal 4wd lancer for cheap. Import non-compliable evo of same shape lancer. Then swap the bits into the NZ registered one and have it certified as a modified lancer.

Then use the unregistered evo shell as a dog kennel or something.

Hey Gavin,
I'm surprised that MMC weren't able to help more. PM Hitman as his 10 sec Lancer started life as an MX and I believe there's a formerly diseasel Libero that runs 10's or 11's now too.

Just find the best shell you can and get ready to disembowel it ;)
