Oil Cap

Went to check my oil today and as i opend the bonnet there was no oil cap 8O guess i forgot to put it back on the last time i checked it. :?
What can i do untill i get a replacement?? cover it up with some tape or something??

Ummm no, what about just get your mate to drive you down to ripco and get a replacement?

Thats true. i have drivin it since i forgot to put the cap on.. when i noticed it 2day there was some oil on the underside of the bonnet and cam cover, checked the oil level thinking it wud be empty but there was still oil in it. must of drivin it to and from work 2 times, bout 10km to work

It took about 20 - 30km to kill the dihatsu, but that was the most abuse it would of had in it's life :lol:

But is it really worth the risk?

nope not at all. ill just go down to supercheap or repco before work and pick one up.. i take it you were driving ur car pretty hard for it to crap out so quick?? man im glad i decided to check the oil today.. other wise id be still driving around with no cap 8O

Why did you have the cap off to check the oil?

Cause the dip stick is broken.. So i tried to see if i could put a stick down from the top and get a reading.. :P nah i was toping it up after checking it. and forgot to put it back on

If even more scary, is that if by chance hes not kidding.... how did he check there is still oil in the car now?.... Knocking on the sump? Oil light off?

umm.. yer i was kidding.. the dipstick is fine. the oil cap however is probly lying somewhere in the gutter. Went to supercheap and repco and they didnt have the right cap.. only the threaded ones.. not the spring loaded ones. so had to get one from waikato toyota. pick it up tomorrow

why didn't you go to either K road auto spares, Pheonix auto parts or avalon auto spares? any of them would have sold you an oil cap for $5 or $10.

Thought long and hard about when the last time i toped the oil up and it was on the sunday.. forgot to put the oil cap back on.. Drove to and from work for the week.. Went to check it the following Sunday and thats when i seen it had no oil cap.. i was driving it for a f#*ing week with out the oil cap!!! 8O :oops: :roll: never got any warning lights... car drove fine and still does oil level was a low but nothing major.. so yer i am F#*ING lucky!!!

back when i worked at a petrol station after school in Cromwell, a lady got her oil topped up by another person who worked with me, then she proceeded to drive to Invercargill and back (approx 400km?) and my workmate had left the oil cap off. She got back with out noticing anything was wrong, the oil cap was still sitting on the suspension strut top thing.
