Strip nd Screw

Postby ke2nv » Fri May 18, 2007 12:37 am

Theres a screw holding in the headlight surround on my car, the head of which is completely stripped. You put the screwdriver in and it just spins, really annoying  . Does anyone know an easy way to get these ba5tards out?????

Couple of ways if you cant get the mole grips onto it, drill it if you can get a drill in, either drill it right through or drill a small hole in the centre and get an EZ out into it. Other than that you'll probly have to weld the end of a small bar to it, 20 - 30mm long. Shouldnt be too much of a mission. Usually though the right size screwdriver, pushed hard enough, will do the trick. Good luck bro.

hmm yea the grips wont work, theres not enough surface area to grab on to. Ill try drill it, hopefully that should do it. Cheers man

does it screw into metal or a plastic bung? Ive come accross some that screw into plastic, and it is the plastic, not the screw that has been stripped. Either a 'safe' yank or squezing the plastic while screwing worked.
Can you get behind it, or is it in a box section?

sorry, i didnt phrase my first question very well  The head of the screw is stripped, meaning the X on the head of the screw is now rounded out to a circle.

use a pair of side cutters,
make the jaws bite into 2 points 180' apart, if that doesnt work then look at drilling out etc.
