Bleeping RunX annoyance - Help ... Please !!!

Postby ryrager » Fri Jun 22, 2007 10:30 pm

Hi All

Well my parents recently purchased a Corolla RunX 2001. The car as a whole is very good, however there is one thing which is irritating my father no end.

When you put the car in PARK and remove the keys you are unable to move the gear selector (This is normal) however even if you push the "lock" button next to the gear selector, you are still unable to move the gear selector to neutral or any other gear selection? Is this normal? Quite often he just wants to me the car a few inches and yet its a huge mission to get the car into Neutral to do it.

On my Caldina I just push the Lock and move it into Neutral and I can push it round but this is not the case with the RUNX

Can anyone confirm this as a "Feature" or is there a fault with the locking mechanism?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi

Thanks for he reply but no it does seem to work. You have to have the key in and it will not come out unless in park .... even if you use the "Lock" Button .... very very annoying

Thanks

Key wont come out unless in park.
Lock button does not over-ride that.

Wont come out of park unless key in and foot on brake,
Over-ride should over-ride that.

I think that there will be a cable from the shifter area that goes up into the dash somewhere (maybe the ignition switch).
Perhaps disconnect it so the shifter lock doesn't engage?

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

My 92 Mitsi Lancer does the same thing. There is a solenoid that flicks in and out on the right hand side of the gear lever under the covers. It's adjustable with locknuts etc so if you pull things apart a bit you'll probably find the same sort of thing.
See ya
