Quick insurance question.....

Postby KiwiMR2 » Sun Jul 01, 2007 10:29 pm

Having never actually made a claim on damage to any of my cars I'm wondering what ahppens in a situation were a mag wheel is damaged beyond repair & it is only a brand that is available in Japan?...what about 1 buggered lowering spring, and one damaged spacer.....how to they go about sorting items that usually come in sets etc.?

Cheers

Usually they have better buying power than the general public and can get away with single purchases, but i guess it would vary from item to item and supplier to supplier.

I think with the springs youd be best replacing them all or at least a pair otherwise it could have some adverse handling effects with a new and old spring on one side / corner.

If its not available in NZ they usually payout for the last list price in NZ or if the part hasn't been for sale in NZ then its normally they pay what they think the part is worth, which unfortunately is a lot less than the actual cost.

yeah pays to replace things in pairs, but the insurance company might not see it that way - i had a friend who had an old maserati, had to get one of his front shocks rebuilt and the warranty company refused to pay for the other side to be done at the same time. at $800 a pop or something it wasnt very nice... perhaps actual insurance would be a bit more understanding though.

First thing they will do is try an wriggle out of paying up if the mods weren't declared/certed(if required). Then if they were declared they will try to pay you some pathetic amount as compensation.

Hmmm....just popped outside & the mag wheel centre cap say's "Hukoto Racing"....I can't seem to find anything on the internet :(

Worst case scenario the spring is stuffed...not sure what brand lowering springs they are but I would have thought they'd just replace the pair. Spacer...can they by them one at a time if it's buggered?

If its not available in NZ they usually payout for the last list price in NZ or if the part hasn't been for sale in NZ then its normally they pay what they think the part is worth, which unfortunately is a lot less than the actual cost.

We had the rims & tyres noted on the policy at $1800....so they may pay out for one rim, say $450 & return the car to us with only 3 wheels?

Fortunitly all the mods were decared & they were certified. In saying that though the insurance papers say "suspension parts changed" $450...basicly what I thought a set of springs might cost.

I had a mag wheel replaced that was only available ex japan with my paint job, so if they can get it, they'll probably get it

heres one that has been bugging me for ages

say you are driving down the road, and some idiot is heading straight for you, so you swerve and veer off the road avoiding hitting them and any other vehicle, but in the process you hit a tree, but havent touched any other cars
is it 'your' fault?
whos insurance pays out?
etc

depends if theres witnesses to say that the other driver was in the wrong i'd guess. you'd need their rego etc. I'd say their insurance wouldn't want to pay out, so you'd have a good fight on ya hands. just a guess

very messy :P

moral of story would be to hit the fuka then theres no confusion as to whose to blame

Insurance says you drove into a tree, it's entirely on you and your insurance.
