car chase out west this morning

Postby deaf_rattle » Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:58 am

About 2am this morning I was awoken by the noise of a turbo Subaru in the high side of 3rd gear screaming passed my house (50kph zone) im guessing approx 150kph or more due to the squealing around the slight bend just up the road. It was followed pretty quickly by 2 police cars that were doin crazy speeds as well.

5 mins later I heard the same noise, and one again the Subaru went ripping passed, this time the two cop cars were gaining.

Another 5 mins and the cars went hooning passed again even faster this time. I Shouldve gone out for a look.

There doesn’t seem to be anything on any of the news websites yet.

Does anyone know what they do to the cop cars? The Subaru sounded fairly modded yet the cop cars were gaining. They must be fairly quick.

I hope they caught them.

Did anyone else hear it last night? (Te Atatu road, out west)

Thats not entirely correct. Some copper cars have seperatly designed ecu's, and yes the suspension is correct.

Those V6's are just quick anyway. Was probly just a modded lower end subaru.. and why did he circle 3 times?? a bit stoopid?

i guess the subaru needed to keep it off the motorway, as once the subaru hits 180 its more than likely to be speed limited, where as the commodores arent.

But yeah, i guess in that situation you probably arent thinking that straight anyway.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they are quick, but they are quick enough to do the job - torque everywhere. The advantage would be in the short bursts of acceleration. Sucks to be the Subie guy, being gained on by a bunch of Buick V6 powered things :D

The ones down here certainly aren't. Its not the acceleration that make cop cars seem quick its the velocity. When you see one speed past you naturally associate it with a fast car becuase you dont often see cars do 100kph + in a 50 zone. Out of the ordinary... fast.... wow fast car. 100+ ... my KP60 (1ltr) used to do that (tail wind, down hill, on 100 octane)
They are a reasonably good handling car, with a reasonably good power plant with a reasonably trained driver. Ever seen a race where they guy in second place just needs to keep the lines clean, pressure on, until the person in the lead spins out.. fuggs up?

i work on alot of cop cars every week ( giltrap holden ) and they are all bone stock, no upgraded chips, suspension etc etc, the only difference between a cop car and normal commodore is the brake pads and the 5mm thick skid plate under the sump. the pursuit cars ae mostly sv6's the vz's rated at 190kws, and the ve's at 195kw's. at the engine, some are open diff it just depends. they even use the same tyres as fitted from factory.

Na man im calling BS, they definitely have lower suspension (the executives anyway), and have for a long time - go get a mufty car and sit it next to a stock executive, big difference. Im also skeptical about the tyres, the tyres they fit on those steel rims are pretty wide compared to your average 16" commy treads - its the biggest giveaway when a mufty cop is coming at you before you can see the lights

Some of the undercover cars are damn quick. Ive witnessed a black holden of some sort with shiny wheels and flashing blue and red lights gain on two evos that sped past it ad over 160kph, and it was stationary on the side of the motorway.

It was placed there after the first nightwars drags though.. so i guess it was waiting for some hotted up cars to go flying past.

And it was defiantly not limited to 180kph, and it defiantly pursued the cars at or over 180kph at times. The evos did not have a limiter either.

Funny thing is i was talking to one of the dudes back at the drags because back then i had a evo too. His car ran a 12.9 so it wasnt exactly slow.. and for a cop car to catch up to it....

What holden commy is limited to 180 anyway though? From factory?

The newest strategic traffic car here in palmy is a commy factory with the sport package. Thats it....

The under cover one is a base model, its even got wind up windows

I agree with the fact that its all in the mind of seeing a car go so fast. What Redmist said.
