Skylines finally sold! So looking to get a new car, i'm split between a few cars, Nissan Cima (VIP), Toyota Landcruiser, Chev Blazer and Hilux Surf.
Since i'm building the RX7, I don't wana spend too muich, so Surf and Blazers are the cheapest options, but the Blazers are quite expensive to maintain.
So Surf seems the best.. But with a gutless 4 cyl in them..
What engines are easy, or possibly a near bolt in choice?

my sisters husband has one with a 1kz-te 3.0L and christ that thing goes all good for what it is. gas struts etc

2.8 petrol??
you mena 2.7? or 2.4? or 3ltr petrol?
the 2.8 is diesel, and a good motor.
a 1kz one would be good.
failing that theres 2jz or 1uz. i reckon the 1uz would be cheaper
theres a coupla threads on it on here

sorry 2.7 I meant, dont want a diesel either
so was looking at petrol alternatives

Petrol is easier to do a conversion in.
1UZ is a fairly straight forward conversion on them as well and you can use the manual R series gearbox on the UZ anyway... Think it's an R151 or 150?

Why do you want to do an engine conversion? Just for the hell of it or because you want a new project? And what are you using it for? Cima is a bit different to a Landcruiser
If you're building up something else then why not just buy something that goes well to start with and use the money on the RX7? Especially since you name maintainence costs as a reason for narrowing down your choices.
And why petrol? Drive the 1KZ-TE powered Surfs and see what you think. Will be a fair bit cheaper to run too.

yeah the 1kz-te powered surfs are great vehicles, if i was going to buy a 4WD they'd be head and shoulders above anything else i've driven.

I'd just about put money on it that a JZ conversion it easier and cheaper.
