Thats pretty high comp for a turbo that large...wonder if the idea was to try spool it quicker at the expense of out and out power.
Definately not what I'd use as a Targa car!

higher compression ratio means a few things
a) spools the turbo faster
b) perkier off boost
c) more HP for the same PSI

Yep, but its also gonna limit what kind of boost pressure you can run. A T78 isnt really gonna be all that efficient at 1 bar. I'd swap to something more like a GT3071 and have a far broader powerband.

Nah, I just think that the 2JZGE is such an overlooked engine. Find me another engine out there which can be readily purchased for under $1000 which with just bolt ons will happily take over 600HP at the flywheel reliably. (turbo'd of course)

So many people seem to be of the opinion that turbo'ing is the only option for a performance engine. Sure slapping a turbo on gives you a good gain of power, but it also gives you all sorts of problems, particuly in a vehicle which gets prolonged useage ie: rally or endurance race. a tickled 2JZGE would be a GREAT engine for such an application, I'd be amazed if someone actually killed one in N/A form. It'd sound very similar to a worked 6 cyl from back back in the days ala XU1 Torana etc so the older motorsport faternity would think it was wonderful too.

add water injection and boost is your oyster.

do you know what compression the national rally championship cars run?

Import used Corolla WRC car from England. =) [lots of hassles getting it registered but, muh what price can you put on fun!]

4wd, 3SGTE, 1 tonne... and they go better when you use Toyotas fancy expanding turbo restrictor :lol:

beeker, ultimately a GT3 is probably where it's at if budget's not an issue. If it is then it's worth considering that the cheapest rally car car you'll ever build is the one you already own.
Assuming you still have the Type R you'd be better off sorting out whatever issues you have with it. These cars have been used to very good effect at the pointy end of Targa and other seal events and I'd suggest that if you're having the troubles you describe it's a setup and/or a driving style problem.
If you can get the hang of driving FWD quickly you'll be going a lot faster than you will in a RWD car - and you won't have had to spend all that money on a new car to do so.

I was gonna, they're probably quite high. But then they also tend to be rebuilt quite frequently don't they?

specially the evo nines, they just now seem to be getting them to the point where they can finish!

the only engine damage we had was when a certain car landed on its roof, and when launch control was used for too long :?

Why not a St165 Gt4 with St205 running gear

Classic looks of a PROPER rallycar , with a tried and tested history of success , still toyota - AWD , lightest of the fours ..

theres about 3 for sale on trademe atm that could be perked up to be targa weapons

OR get an RC - full castrol replica decals , upspecced running gear ( 205 box and brakes for starters ) and do a tribute car ..

I am going ST165 route but I cannot afford targa (right now I cannot afford even rollcage)... After purchase of ST205, ST165 project become a long term one. I do not regret buying ST205 - great car!
