dont bullsh!t people who drive AE85's secretly wish there chassis tag said AE86, you can say all you want about "huh i dont care if its a 85 or 86"
only people who a serious about racing wont care because they have gotten over the wow factor of the number 86, and they have most likely changed so many things on the car, they only care about how the chassis performs,

hell even i wish my levin, notch was a 86, it'd be nice to know it was worth more because its got one different number,

i wont make a secret of it, i do wish my car was a real AE86, if only for the resale value. i also wish it had a proper interior, and a working heater - but for the car you get i couldnt justify spending the money people are asking for 86's, thats why i made the comment about S13's etc. theres an uglyass notch 86 on trademe at the moment for 8600 - you could buy an 85 shell and put a turbo engine in it for that much money.

at the end of the day, what i have drives no different to an 86, and cost less than a third of the price.

It would be expensive yes, but so worth it in the end.

Of course the 85 would get caged for track duties 8)

And that concept above looks very very nice, well for a new car at least.

If yours was panda it would be enough of a testament

It's factory red over black, so it's only one colour out 8)

1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

sounds lame

'spiritual successor' means 'car along the same lines of, but not the same car'.
So whatever they design, it might be light, RWD, 2 door coupe - but chances are it will never be *exactly like the AE86 model Corolla*.

Also, so it would supposedly be 1300cc. ok so thats not so great, but what if it was a 1300cc, pulling all the same figures as say, a smallport 4age? because chances are, with 20 years (probably 25 since i cant imagine it would be released this side of 2010) development, wouldnt it make sense for the engine to be make the same power from less displacement?

yep...

example...
http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/toyota/corona/1989_11/4255/
Displacement, cc 1998
Engine model 3S-GE
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 165 ps (121.36 kw) / 6800 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 19.5 kg*m (191.23 N*m) / 4800 rpm

http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/toyota/altezza/2001_5/566/
Displacement, cc 1998
Engine model 3S-GE
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 200 ps (147.10 kw) / 7000 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 22.0 kg*m (215.75 N*m) / 4800 rpm

Just for a semi-like-for-like engine comparison.

And thats only 12 years difference... theres another 10 odd to add to that, but I couldn't find specs for a 1981 3sge... not sure if they existed.

wikipedia is the answer...
1986.
150 bhp (112 kW) and 129 ft·lbf (175 Nm) of torque.
