OK this is for you rally guys.my rjs belts expire in october and im after some new ones.Being a newby i dont know where to get them and i dont trust the ones on trademe does any one know who sells them.They are 4 point and sfi spec 16.1 approved

Pick up a copy of Speedsport Magazine & look in there or else try the following if in Auckland.

Hitech Motorsport - Drury
Kendalls Race Supplies - North Shore
Cardwells - Albany
Autoquip Marketing - Dominion Road
Revolution Racegear - Penrose

That'd be a good start at they'd cover most of the common brands like Willans,TRW,ERG,Sabelt etc.

I believe Silvester Performance in Christchurch do probably the cheapest SFI belts available so could also be worth a call.

I can supply you genuine MOMO belts which have a FIA 5 year lifespan unlike the 2 year lifespan all the SFI approved belts have.

RJS lever-locks from Cardwells were approx $115 a set last time I bought some (2 years ago). They are SFI spec, which last for 2 years. Silvesters do a FIA-spec camlocks for $199+GST and Palmside (in Chch) have FIA-spec Monza 6 points for $235.

Personally I prefer the RJS belts just because it is so frickin hard to adjust the Silvesters. If you prefer doing things in a set-and-forget manner then that may not be a problem for you.

Regardless of what you buy, make sure that the dates on them allow you to get the maximum life out of them, you don't want to buy a pair of SFI belts only to find that they have already had 3 months of their lifespan used. For FIA belts look for ones that expire at the end of 2012, if they have a 2011 expiry then they are old stock being dumped.

I have a set of cam lock Silvester, and i found them hard to adjust, now looking to get another harness for the passenger side... anyone used the Monza 6 points?

Might be a dumb question and also possibly a thread jack but... Are harnesses road legal? Heard a while ago, a friend of a friend type deal reckoned they aren't, just clarifying.

I have four sets of Monza's (well Brick now owns two of them.). They are a good belt that comes with all attachments/ eyes. (the Silvesters dont)They arent anywhere near as hard to adjust as my Silvesters. I also found the Silvesters to be very long before the first adjuster on the lap belts. This caused the adjuster to foul on the side of the seat when the seat was put back in the rails (yes stock two lock rails) for the leggy "child of questioned parentage" that I am. If I had have owned the Mitsi rally car longer I would have shifted the eyes.

Although the Monza's arent bad to adjust they arent as good as some of the other brands. My UK Luke harnesses for instance where beautifully fluid.

They are not road legal other than in a race / rally car with a MotorSport Authority Card.

there are some other wierd exemptions, but for all intents and purposes, they are not road legal.

I've owned Monza's and liked them, and used Silvesters and disliked them a lot. I definitely wouldn't buy the Silvester FIA belts having used them. They're a bastard of a thing to adjust.

I have got Sabelt belts in my lotus 7 replica, and they are pretty good to adjust etc

there is an exception for scratch built cars with only 1 row of seats, thats how hotrod and kitcars etc get away with it, problem is many wof places don't know so make me bolt in the normal seatbelt for a wof, lucky its only a 2min job!
