Sony subs any good?

Postby Hbomb » Sat Jul 28, 2007 11:03 am

There are some cheap 12 inch sony subs XSL124P5, 350rms 2007 model on trademe.

Are sony subs any good? I'm after a cheap sub but I've only ever had rockford fosgate, never had sony stuff. Good price tho.

IMHO sony subs are useless. But... depending on price. As an indicator, on trademe I pikced up a Pioneer 12" Dual Voice Coil (TS-W306DVC) for $100.00. Again IMHO the Pioneer 12" subs outclass the Sony subs.

They're not so bad if you just want a bit of bass, but don't expect high quality sound, or big volumes from them. They're very entry level.

as with aboves. Ive found them fine for adding some bass to a basic system, but from experience they are nothing special and when I used to sell 2nd hand stuffs they tended to crapout the most.
Cant believe im still a member here.

You best look at what these things really offer...
They are cheap and offer good bang for buck but are not as reliable as others.
If you look around there are Pioneer and Kenwwod available for similar prices.
If you want to open your mind and wallet a little further there are a lot more options that will serve you better.
A dual voice coil sub in the right box and amp will last longer and thump harder if set up right and therefore cost less in the long run.
I have had my Focal 13" DVC sub for 4 yrs and no issues and it stings when wound up and was $600 new one sub small space better sound and thats only one brand.

There are a lot of combos that will work so try a good Car Audio store as most generic shop don`t help make it last or tell you how to tune it for power or quality...
If you want a contact 0274 445 326 I can put you onto someone who can help.......

I'm actually selling my subs and box at the moment on trademe. IMHO subs are over rated. Decent set of speakers connected to a decent amp and you're away.
