If you want all out performance from a IL4 there are far far better platforms to build on than a seriously over engineered (over weight) sports coupe.

Evo 1 - 1190

S13 - 1200

Firstly the ST205 is 1367 kgs with about 20kgs of fuel onboard. A full alarm system, climate control, AC, ABS, dual airbags and a full sound system. I corner weighted the car myself.
On the same scales my stripped out race GSR RS weighed in at 1162. I very much doubt a road going Evo 1 weighed in anywhere near that low.
The Evo 1 isnt exactly a good comparitive. I'd think that the Evo 4, is more of the ST205's era and a better comparison. Even then the car has little of the luxuaries associated with the ST205, and consequently weight.
The Celica is wider, lower, wider tracks and considerably bigger brakes than most of the Evo series. Again this adds weight, but also adds stability and to some extent allows better cornering.

But I digress, this argument is rubbish. The Celica was never designed as a drag car... its not really stunning at cornering... its a bloody GT for gods sake... it just happened to be a homologation special GT.

Mitsubarus might beat me in a dash to the 1/4 mile but I've put a fair bit of money on the line that I can at run with the boys in a rally.

Wank value my ST205's anyday. Its one sexy fat cat.

please tell me how many ST205s do you see on the road every day?
Next to nothing.
It is very unique car. Very good looking even if it is 15 year old design.
I find it very stable, and very comfortable to drive.
As a package ST205 beats all of those cars listed above.
As for EVOs - every dog has got one, same WRX, just look how many FDs are on trademe, GTST - well it is a plain boring skyline.

I've owned a hand full of Subaru's including one very quick/modified 96 VersionII STI RA. Some one asked a question on club sub relating to which is better... Subaru/STI or Gt-Four....

Long story short... My STI was much much quicker. And with out getting in to the finer details as to why... IMO the ST205 is a better overall car for everyday use. But it really is each to their own. 8)

My reasons for GT4 as a base for mods

1. Its a toyota
2. Its heavy,
3. Strong ie drive chain, suspension, structure etc
4. Its a toyota
5. Potential

Decved if you are going to compare your STI to a GT4 you will need a modified example.

In summary the GT4 makes an excellent base to modify on. Out of the factory they have been de tuned re slow and tame.

Good discussion, agree with you last remark.

So lets start the list of cars off the road

1. 94 GpA -reason full engine rebuild under way

Who else ?

Probably the biggest pro of the 205 over my STI is that the RA is geared so close that its a prick to drive open road comfortably. it was like 7 years ago now though lol but at the time I didnt care it went fast and got quicker and quicker... but the older I got and more open road driving I did I really disliked it. Great for drags and going quick and weekend driving i suppose - but my 205 is so much more useable for EVERYTHING EVERYDAY :)

Thats really what I was getting at :)

Oh and my car is off the road while they open it up to figure out what the hell happened and what caused my number 2 cylinder to shoot the spark plug out of the head. (going left to right its the second cylinder in)

I enjoyed my evo, sti, silvias and even my type r more than my st205.

I liked the other cars because they were more 'raw'. The STI was faster and just as comfortable, but thats in a higher price bracket.

Talk about reliable, I raped mine for 2 years before I started having to fix things. (And I mean raped, we paddocked it for hours and hours!) None of the others lasted anywhere near as long. It was as realiable while taking a beating as a kp60.

BUT, now that I'm a few years older, I would like to get another ST205.

Especially now that they're $20 grand cheaper than what I paid for mine!
